Favorite Reference Tool for Nursing Care Plans
This is a large reference book, however this one is the most complete and comprehensive I have found to date. I do have several care plan books - but each one with the exception of this volume is devoted to a nursing specialty. Each nursing diagnosis developed is based on the NANDA International label unless it is otherwise specified. The first chapter covers utilized care plans to individualize and improve care for your patients. It gives you a basic guideline to follow in the development of care plans for your patient. The format is alphabetical starting with Activity Intolerance and ending with Urinary Retention. Subsequent chapters expand on these categories as they are related to the patient's progress through the system i.e., pre- or post-operative care, chemotherapy, integumentary issues, renal and urinary tract issues, etc. The book is very thorough and helped me to understand how the different parts and pieces of a care plan are related and how to develop and execute a care plan that leads to better outcomes for the patient. Great book, I use it alot, the pages are getting dogeared and marked up.

Good book
I brought this for my nursing students in the clinical setting. They said it was helpful for written care plans and finding nursing diagnosis for their patients. Would recommend this book for nursing students.

helpful for new nursing students
this book was very helpful in writing my care plans. They give good interventions and rationales although if your school is like mine you will have to supplement the rationales to make them more in depth. The goals and objectives section are very generic but that is because pt goals/objectives are supposed to be pt specific. But this is very great and helpful in guiding care plans especially in your first semester when you don't know how to think like a nurse yet.

Very Helpful Resource
I am happy with this as a supplement to my nursing diagnostics manual. It has good care plans based off NANDA diagnoses with rationales that are easy to build off of and customize. It also has diagnoses and care plans listed for common medical procedures and medical diagnoses. Look up something like joint arthroplasty or MS and there are usually 5 to 6 care plans pre-made and ready to be customized for your patient. I found it helpful with identifying good interventions and making my care plans more comprehensive.

You'll thank yourself later for purchasing this book
After two grueling quarters of nursing school without any book to help with care plans, I wised up. This book is amazing. It's very in-depth, provides tons and tons of interventions and nursing diagnoses and really helps when writing your care plans. Though there is no way for the book to cover every problem you encounter in the clinical setting, it has nice generic interventions for major organ systems, which really helps. A large amount of classmates were asking to borrow my book after I was able to finish clinical care plans overnight with the help of this book. You'll really thank yourself (and so will your sanity) for this purchase. Completely worth every penny.

Get it your first semester
I struggled with care plans in the beginning of nursing school. They can seem easy at first but once you start getting patients with multiple issues going on, it can become diffcult to pick the most applicable NANDAs and prioritize them. This book has helped me tremendously with my NCPs and I get almost perfect grades on them now. Using this book really helps "connect the dots" and lets you know if you're on the right track. I prefer to start with the pathophys and select my NANDAs from there. That is how this book it organized. It also gives a short background on each diesease, which is helpful.

If you can buy the hardcopy
This is a great book for writing your care plan. It great interventions and rationales and easy to use. I would not buy the kindle version of this book though. Referencing is hard because there are no page numbers. WHERE in the world are the page numbers??? What page am I REALLY on? No one knows. It only says location 7 thousand and something. This book does not have 7 thousand pages!
