Question 1

I want the relay to provide 12 vdc (pin 87) when my car is turned on  (positive 12 vdc on pin 86 with constant ground on pin 85). This does opposite??

Find a wire that gets 12v only when the ignition is on. Connect that wire to pin 85 on the relay. Connect pin 86 to a good ground.

Find an "always hot" connection of sufficient size to power whatever you are powering place a suitable fuse in the wire and connect it to pin  87. Then connect whatever you want to power to pin 87.

Question 2

Why show pin 87a as disconnected in the listing diagrams?  i bought a 5-pin relay for a reason - to use pin 87a.  crazy.

87a is the yellow wire. In the first circuit, pin 87a will be "hot" when the circuit is  de-energized.

Can relay be use to receive (pin 30) video signal from rca cable and transmit to pin 87 to another rca cable?

Francisco the answer to your question is Yes absolutely. Depending on what you are using this for there are at least 3 different ways you could hook this up. I will try to explain the 3 different ways. The first is what your asking-example: The source of the video such as a security camera would go to pin 30, and the target or destination to receive the video would go to pin 87. The second way would be the same as the first way except you could use pin 87a to input into another target or destination device (monitor/recorder) when the relay is not energized and then pin 87 to another device (monitor/recorder) when the relay is energized. The third way would be if you wanted to input 2 different devices-source, say 2 video camera's to 1 target-(monitor/recorder). You would just simply reverse the process. Example: Camera no. 1 to pin 87a and camera no. 2 to pin 87 and pin no. 30 to the receiving device - (monitor/recorder). I would highly recommend that you obtain some female RCA ends and cut your shielded cable as short as possible to install to the relay. This way you could just simply plug your regular male RCA cables into the relay. Be sure to connect ALL of the shields (grounds) together and then solder or connect the center conductors to the relay wires. Keep all wires near the relay as short as you can. This is the relay color code: Pin no.85-Relay coil-Black=Ground, negative 12 volts dc. Pin no.86-Relay coil-White=Positive 12 volts dc. Pin no. 30-Red. Pin no. 87a-Yellow. Pin no. 87-Blue. These relays will operate between as little as 9 volts DC to up to 15 volts DC. I would use at least 250ma or so. I hope this helps. Good luck with your project. Stay Safe. Harlan C.
