These are real cymbals, bro

I've been playing drum kits & using really good cymbals for 40 years. And I like these L80s... a lot. Read on.I moved and now have to practice in my basement. Adding tons of soundproofing is out of the question. These cymbals were perfect for my needs. They are "real" cymbals that really sound like cymbals so you aren't wailing away on a rubber practice pad stuck over your favorite ride. The perforations are curious and take a bit of getting used to, but that's not bad, and you need them to get rid of mass. Less mass = less volume. If you are considering this cymbal pack, do yourself a favor and get the 20" ride, too. The 18" is a bit hokey as a ride, but great as a crash. The 20", however, feels and sounds like a real ride. The bells on these cymbals won't sound like those on good B20 bronze models, but if you accept them for what they are, they still isn't bad. I also bought the 10" splash. It is a bit thick & isn't as bright sounding as a "real" hand-hammered 10" splash, but it still isn't a bad cymbal at all.So....would I play these in public in a small venue where I really need to keep the volume down? Absolutely.I'm mostly a Sabian guy and bought these for practice. I really was impressed by the quality and sound. And... I just noticed Sabian and Dream have released "copy cat" products. What does that tell you? If you need to keep your volume down but want the experience of playing real bronze, I'd highly recommend the L80 product line.

Good but...

These work well for low volume practicing but the holes create a friction point. The bead tips on your wood sticks wear down to nothing really quick. But, it’s either that or play on plastic or rubber. I guess it’s the price we pay šŸ’°!

Highly recommended for practice

I was impressed by tone and feel of these cymbals, especially the hi-hats and ride. Nice sound and overall feel ideal for low level practice. Looking forward to trying in low volume band situations. Initially bought to go with practice kit with mesh heads.

I actually enjoy the tone these cymbals produce as well

If you have an apartment and want to keep playing your acoustic kit without driving your neighbors nuts, grab some L80's and some Remo SilentStokes. Even though they are separate companies, I swear they worked together in developing these products together. I actually enjoy the tone these cymbals produce as well, they aren't as tinny as I was expecting. They can be a little strange at first if you're a hard hitter, you'll wack the crash and be taken back by how quiet it is. I love these cymbals and never plan on getting rid of them, they are perfect for people with families, annoying neighbors and apartment drumming.

Real Feel with less volume!

I love these! They go really well with the dampener pads I have on my drum set. It's so nice to play in a regular bedroom and not feel like it's overwhelming. I absolutely love them and will get more in the future.

Amazingly quiet

I run a kids band program and drum volume has always been a concern. I tried an electronic kit but it just wasn't right. The pads were too small and the hihat was awful. These cymbals along with some mesh heads on an old kit are the perfect practice kit. The hihats sound good and respond just like full ones. The ride cymbal sounds great and has a nice bell sound as well. The crash doesn't bloom much but is ok. Some have added a bit of chain to make the decay longer. Overall a big hit with the kids. You can actually talk over the drums while being played. Amazingly quiet.

nice for practicing

these things are pretty cool. even though theyre much quieter than regular accoustic cymbals, theyre still a little loud if you really want to practice as quietly as possible. i matched them with my remo silent stroke heads and i feel like the cymbals are still very loud in comparison to the drums. for the price though, its hard to complain. its just to just have them around and throw them on whenver you want.

Beautiful sound

The sound is awesome and low, perfect cymbals when you need them to be quieter, well worth the money.

Good sound, very acceptable volume

I use these on a drumkit with mesh head. The overall volume is so low I can easily talk over it. I use the drumkit in an apartment with a tennis balls raiser to avoid "stomping" on the floor. The hi-hat sounds pretty good. The crash sounds a bit like a ride, the ride sounds pretty good too. Sound wise, they sound a bit different from real cymbals, but if your aim is to practice quietly, these guys are good. I've added rubber pads on them to reduce to almost nothing the sound and practice in the evenings. They still sound better and less noisy than real cymbals.

Great feel and very quiet

I have 2-piece kit at home setup and always used dampening pads but after a friend showed me his home kit with Remo Silent Strokes and these Zildjian's I swapped my heads and cymbals. What a difference, the feel is almost exactly the same as a regular cymbal but the sound is very quiet. The crash/ride does not have a lot of bell when doing some accents but it rides well and crashes nicely. The hihats are on the hissy side of things but the feel is really good. These is definitely a lot of stick definition, especially on the hi hats which might put some people off. With the Silentroke heads and these cymbals I can now practice at any time without sacrificing feel or dynamics.Great tool for improving at home.

Great for low volume practice

The media could not be loaded.  Great set of cymbals for low volume practice. They are a lot quieter than a standard cymbal, meaning you can practice in a bedroom. You can hear your stick hitting over the top of them if you play hard, so they don’t have a great sound, however, that’s the trade off for being able to practice.

Less noise but no less quality

The media could not be loaded.  These are amazing.Listen to the video and hear the difference between the normal China and the l80sI was skeptical at first but after playing them they do sound like genuine cymbals. Just imagine you’re playing normal cymbals with earplugs in and this is what you get. The hi-hats in particular sound so good. Same feel, just with a much lower volume.Only thing is now the snare and toms are overpowering

Somewhat worth it

My neighbors are happier than they've ever been. Combined with silentstroke heads it's so good I've stopped playing my electronic drumset.Update a year after:Ride was the first one to go. About 5 months in, started cracking and eventually became unusable. Crashes cracked pretty fast soon after. Hihat is still going strong, a year in, playing daily.Swapped for a different brand low volume cymbals, those are going stronger than these, showing no signs of wear pretty much. However I do have to give it to zildjians, they sounded best.
