I am a bit of a lawn fanatic. Great tool for sampling soils. I usually send in one or even two soil samples per year. This tool makes it easy. Yes, sometimes the sample doesn’t come out without some extra push, but I’m good with that

Reading some of the reviews I was hesitant to buy this. But with some further reading convinced me to grab one for myself. First, my soil is sandy loam sitting on top of that good ole Blackland Prairie black gumbo clay that I have been trying to amend for years. I took 10 samples yesterday from my 6000 SQ FT yard, quickly and easily. Honestly, I didn't find the dowel that useful, however since the handle comes out of the body and its outside diameter is slightly smaller than the inside diameter of the tool body at the taper, it works fantastically to push the soil out the top of the toolI wasn't interested in keeping and reviewing striations, but I see no reason why the same process with a bit more gentleness wouldn't work.Storage is easy and compact, the handle goes in the tool body, little tape on both ends, and off into the small yard tools bin it goes.

This item could have been cut at an angle at the bottom to cut into the ground easier. The wooden stick to empty the dirt chamber is pretty much useless as it is way thinner than the chamber. However it gets the job done and for the price is not a bad buy.

I liked this product because it was easy to use, and got the job done. I liked the design- using the wooden rod easily ejected the soil sample out when you were ready to collect it. The item seemed sturdy enough that I was never worried about it bending or otherwise getting damaged during use.If I could change one thing, I would make the holes that the handle fits into *slightly* smaller, for a tighter fit, but that wasn't enough of a complaint for me to subtract a star. Overall, a worthwhile buy.

I purchased this product to be able to utilize to do core samples annually of my lawn however, when utilizing this product, the wooden dowel that it comes with is a piece of crap.It does not clear the soil sample very easily, and I have already broken my dowel. I have since upgraded to a metal piece of rebar to help with facilitating soil removal this afterthought on product design greatly reflects on the quality of the product you’re using. all straight from China, I would expect nothing less, do yourself a favor and upgrade to a metal dowel for easier soil removal.

Great product for soil samples with ease.

I was concerned I'd have trouble getting the probe into our clay soil, but so long as I wasn't hitting a rock or root I was able to pull the desired 6" sample fairly simply, just twisting back and forth while pressing down; then twisting once to break the sample free of the ground and a quick pull. The removable handle meant I could easily push the sample out of the top of the tube and into my bucket with the push stick supplied.I have my soil samples collected and sent off, looking forward to the soil test results

I used it to take soil samples. It worked like it was supposed to.
