Foursevens Maelstrom MXS Standby Flashlight - Emergency House Flashlight with Inductive Charging Base - Blue

This unit is designed to be an emergency light to be kept in your bedroom and possibly in other areas. It sits vertically in a round base which plugs in to a USB charger. It acts as a night light as there is a low glow from the power button when the unit is sitting on the charge base. You can change out the blue button for a black one if you want the low night light to be so dim it only helps you to find the light. You can change it out for a white one if you want it to be a brighter night light.When the electric power goes off, the light turns on to its lowest setting, which bright enough to see the entire room but not uncomfortably bright. It also goes into this ultra low light as soon as you pick it up off the base.A push of the button will turn the light on to the last brightness setting. A double click will turn it on into its brightest setting, which is very bright. If I use that mode to light the inside of my house side door, it makes it as bright as if I turned the inside lights on. That door is 70' down a long hall from my bedroom door!Light pattern is ideal for inside a house or lighting up an entire yard. It has a wide pattern with substantial light to the sides and is still a bit brighter in the center for good distance. My backyard is 100' wide and 125' deep to the back wall. On high, through my bedroom window glass, it lights up the entire backyard as well as if I used the 5 old style flood lights on the back of the house. The color and quality of the light output is better than any other light I've used for home security type use, at least for a house on a lot up to a couple acres.The person that gave it five stars but said it isn't for a bedroom because it comes on lowest setting when you put it in the base is totally WRONG. He must have programmed it. It comes ON when you remove from base and goes OFF when returned. I have 3 of these and several of my friends bought them also.

Let's get this out of the way first - yes, it's expensive. If you just want a really bright light, there are other, cheaper, options out there. What sets this light apart, for me at least, are the following:Beam quality - this torch uses a high CRI LED which produces a more natural, very pleasing beam. The beam pattern is great too. Nice hot spot with plenty of spill to make it very versatile. I use it walking through the neighborhood trails at night and around the yard and I really appreciate the quality of the beam this light produces. I have a couple of other lights as bright or brighter but the light they produce is ugly and not as useable. Give me high quality light over high lumens any day. This torch, fortunately, has both.Build quality - the new foursevens (and Prometheus) lights are all really well designed and built. The MXS is beautifully crafted, looks fantastic, and feels great in the hand. The build quality is top notch and I'm confident this light will last a very long time.Standby feature - this may not be useful for everyone, but for some, this is a killer feature. Being able to find the light easily when the power goes out is very helpful, even if I'll only need it once a year or so. But something I've used several times is the auto-on feature when I remove the light from its charging base. When I get up in the middle of the night and I'm already disoriented, the last thing I need is to fumble getting a flashlight on. With this one, I just grab it use it - no fumbling.So yes, this light is expensive - and a bit over-priced. That said, I still think it's a decent value and I'm glad I bought it.

The media could not be loaded.  Seems like a nice light. But it has to be able to do something spectacular to justify the 185$ price tag. It uses a standard flathead battery but I think it said it could use a battery with a tab on top but the details are fuzzy on that. The point was made they they used a little cleverness and a real pain in the but manufacturing step that eliminated the need for a proprietary battery. So in other words they made a standard flashlight like all the rest are. At least the ones I have. I do have a couple with different battery needs but just 2 out of 60. Also the charging base is nice but not ground breaking. I just don’t see it as a 185$ flashlight. It’s well made and has some nice features but it’s a 80$ flashlight at best. Three Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️!!!

It is really unfortunate that I feel compelled to rate this flashlight so poorly, I have a foursevens mini turbo that has been my EDC for years and has survived some incredible punishment. But the MXS, despite having a very nice user interface and a clever design that automatically turns it on when the power goes out, died when I brushed it off my nightstand and it hit a carpeted floor, and attempts to contact foursevens, where I bought it directly, have been unsuccessful. And while I understand this is a small business with everyone wearing many hats, you need to be able to provide support at this price point or you will not have any repeat business. I will revise this evaluation if circumstances change.

Absolutely great light. BUT - It needs a few things. Maybe just one thing. A silicone glow in the dark diffuser that also is an anti roll device would make this exceptional light perfect! I’ve looked at aftermarket stuff and found nothing applicable for both purposes.

I love this flashlight. I keep it in my kitchen, sitting on its base, and ready for action. As soon as you lift it from it's base, it comes to life on its dimmest setting. Want it brighter, then a press or two of the power button increases the intensity to medium or bright. This thing is well built and a work of art. I love the true to life LED that gives a truer color perspective than other LED lights I've used. For those who like the best, this is one to buy. Expensive? Yes. I use it nearly every day and it brings daily pleasure.Thank you Prometheus Lights for rescuing and improving the FourSevens flashlight line.
