You already know you can get all of this information for free off the Internet. There are countless sites, videos and books about every knot you could ever need. This is something you keep with your gear or leave at your fly-tying bench so you don't have to look online or dig through a tome of knots, most of which you'll never need. I keep mine at work with a few bits of cordage to practice.This little book is more of a quick-reference pamphlet specifically for fly fishing. The knots it covers are still good ones to know and they will always get the job done. You won't use all of the knots unless you fish both fresh- and saltwater. The illustrations are clear and easy to follow. The font is large enough for those of us that need reading glasses. I do like the simplicity and form factor.Couple of gripes:- it's overpriced. It's a pamphlet, really. It's meant to be pocket sized but it's too fragile to be carried in a pocket, and it's not waterproof.- two typos: page 4 "miss guided" instead of misguided and page 25 "lop" for loop. Considering I read it cover-to-cover in 5 minutes that irked me.Other than that, it's a good little reference to help you with your basic knots.

When the senior brain fog strikes, I sometimes can’t recall all the steps of tying a knot I seldom use. Now, VOILA! A little helper in my tackle box. Great, understandable graphics and a great range of knots for different purposes. . Going fishing in the mountains tomorrow and I’m sure this will come in handy. I wish this was laminated, but it still has a good selection of knots available. I keep it at my desk at work and practice knot tying with some mono that I have in my drawer when I'm stuck on conference calls...

Seemingly any and every knot ever used in fly fishing! Perfect size for taking along to your favorite fishing location. Great illustrations that are easy to follow.

I must say, this is quite a good book for learning to tie just about any knot you will need not only for fly fishing, but any fishing in general. It breaks it down at the very beginning where each knot is generally used so you can actually see where in the process each knot goes. Then, when you reach the page for each knot, it gives you a brief background on why each knot is used. Visualizations are large and easy to follow. It even goes into labeling tag ends and standing ends so you can follow where each end is through each step. Now, the reason this has 4 vs 5 stars is the fact that you more than likely will not be using this book to memorize knots in the comfort of your dry home. Generally you will take this with you and use it when you need it. With this being a paperback book, it does not get along well with water. I ended up waterproofing mine by taking clear packing tape (the large rolls), and essentially covering each page with the tape.

Some good knots, not terribly thorough. Drawings could use a little help since they look drawn by a 7 YO but does show the most used and popular knots.

Some knots are committed to memory but others I forget because they are seldom used. This was easy to understand with pictures. It shows joining lines, lines to reels, flies, loop knots, dropper knots and basic leaders, trout leaders and yarn indicator knots. Tried them out with a couple of pieces of string while looking at the book. The book is thin so it doesn't take up any space and the next time I forget which knot is which, the book is there.
