Weider products have been seen as being less harmful to the body than other protein supplements on the market. In the 1970s the company began producing professional bodybuilding equipment and developed its first weight-training gym, which was a popular location for bodybuilders. In 1978, Weider introduced its first weight-gaining formula and introduced a new product line called "Weider Bodybuilding" later that year. In 1980, the company began selling its weight-gaining formulas in North America. The company’s first US office opened in 1983 and the first US store opened in 1991. In 1995, Weider teamed up with fitness expert Jack LaLanne to create a line of fitness videos and DVDs.
