I have looked at 100's of lamps, both online and offline, and this one is one of the best, in many respects.One Note: This is a shorter lamp, so probably not best for a Living Room end table.Works best as a desk lamp and as a bedside lamp (where it bumps your bedroom up to nice hotel room status!).Good Things About This Lamp:1. Excellent classic design - sleek black body with chrome accent, nicely balanced black rectangular shade.2. Good weight - so many lamps weigh so little that they tip over with very little provocation.Not this one - nice and sturdy.3. Black on black - one of the few lamps that offers a black body with a black shade.Bonus: The rectangular shade is the perfect balance to the body; any other shape - bell, etc. - would not have provided the modern silhouette that this shade does.4. Very well packaged - so well packaged that shade did not have a single dent!Quite an accomplishment!5. Very fair price - $52. I have paid twice that for inferior lamps.Good To Know: Lite Source provides many lamps to Target's online store.Many of those same lamps are available here on Amazon for 20% - 25% less (plus free 2-day shipping if you are an Amazon Prime member).I'm not knocking Target because they are a really good store, but the fact that they have online stores to support - and Amazon does not - probably accounts for the price difference, so check Amazon first for best price!

Lamp looks perfect in my living room. The part connected to the base was attached a little crooked but I kept the lamp anyway, decided we're all a little crooked so it is unique just the way it is. Works for me. ;)

I bought this for my desk at work and am very glad I did. It looks great, works fine, and it gets a lot of positive comments. It arrived on time and in perfect shape. There was no assembly required, apart from inserting a bulb and attaching the shade. It has a long, but shallow profile, so it sits very well against a flat wall on a desk without taking up too much space. The shade is opaque--as a result, light is deflected up and down and not into your eyes. It makes for a very nice indirect lighting effect. It's sturdy with a reasonably weighted base--no toppling over. The black leather around the base and stem looks amazingly cool. And the silver metal bracket adds to the effect nicely. I have been very happy with this lamp--and expect it'll be on my desk for many years to come.PROS:--Great, modern styling--Gives off excellent indirect light--Leather base looks and feels wonderful--Easy to put together and set up--Nice weighted baseCONS:--Styling might be too modern for some tastes?--Switch is up near the bulb, making it a bit awkward to turn on and off. It would have been more convenient had the switch been built on top of the base or on the side.

Lamp shade cracked on both sides.

This is the perfect style and color for my home theater. There are some quality issues, however. Where the black shade material rolls to the inside it is sloppily attached and this is somewhat visible against the white inner shade material. Also the base was not firmly attached to the rest of the lamp on one of my two lamps, so it can look crooked. I'll probably have to add a screw somewhere.

This is truly a great buy. I'm currently furnishing my new condo and I have a modern/contemporary look I'm trying to establish. I bought 2 of these lamps, one for each nightstand in the bedroom. First thing you notice right out of the box is the beautiful lines on this lamp. Nothing round or curved which was exactly what I was looking for. The faux leather is convincing and the white stitching along the edges were a nice touch. The shiny metal brace holding the shade on top was a great accent piece. The black lamp shade is perfect for the bedroom scene as it produces subdued lighting to induce sleep (or sets the stage for something a little more intimate too). This lamp shines with a low wattage bulb so make sure you use 40-watt rating or under. Packaging was also first rate as it kept everything nice and snug for undamaged delivery.

Whoever wrote that bad review certainly couldn't be more wrong. I was most delighted with these lamps. They are beautifly proportioned and most handsome. I am a retired architect who has spent his life creating beauty and am well qualified in judging their quality. I bought two one for each bedside scandivan teak table unit.The only negative element was the inclusion of one of these new light bulbs which give off a terrible white light that our government is forcing on us. However that was easily corrected by using normal soft whote bulbs. Finally they are a real buy and look much more expensive.
