Absolutely Fantastic Device. Bought three and all three worked

Absolutely Fantastic Device. Bought three and all three worked. I've had several students use this in Raspberry Pi-themed projects and these are great. I got this when it was like $20 or so. It only accepts one type of coin at a time, but for the price that is great, in my opinion. The package has some hilarious broken English, bragging about how the device can protect against "the Tricks", notifying you that it is compatible with all "worldwild coins," and speaking of something called "rario" which I'm pretty sure means ratio, but context clues only leave me ~75% sure on that point. However, once you decode what they mean more or less, this thing is pretty easy to figure out. For it to work you have to power it at 12V. (red and black wires). Without power it will not work. You need to then insert a desired-coin type into the sample holder slot. This is used by the machine to compare inputted coins against. Smaller coins get automatically puked back while larger coins hang, but can be released with the coin-return thing. Only near-identical coins get "caught" and released through the bottom output-chute. There are then two output signals (both with respect to the ground wire), a good-coin signal which is a low-hi pulse of a few 100 ms and a counter which I haven't really used, but could. The sensitivity of the device can be adjusted with a trimmer pot. As shipped the device is not sensitive enough to distinguish between a dime and a penny (US), but as you crank it, it will get better and better. Has no problem distinguishing obvious coins like quarter and nickel...and even Susy-B's are different enough from quarters at default settingThe crappy directions said to pull out the yellow holder token thing..that wasn't in any of the three of these that I bought. That isn't really important though.I'll try to post photos sometime about using it some time, but feel free to request or get in contact with me if you need help getting it to work.

Works well, poor documentation

Took a while to figure it out. I've posted a photo to help explain things. A few things to remember:1. Insert the reference coin as shown in the photo (this is what the manual refers to as a "yellow plastic token")2. The most helpful guide is on the sticker on the device itself (see photo)3. It is powered by 12V4. The coin signal output (white wire) can be set to NO (normally open) or NC (normally closed) by a switch just above the wires.5. Yes, it works with Arduino, RPi etc. Make sure the coin acceptor and microcontroller share the same GND. Best to set the NO/NC switch for the coin signal output to NO. Have a pull-up resistor on the coin signal line (in Arduino you can just use INPUT_PULLUP). When a coin passes through the acceptor the coin signal output will be pulled to ground. If you like this review, please mark it as helpful so others see it too.

Worked in my Toy Taxi

Hello Everyone! The coin-mech that was on my Toy Taxi Claw/Crane machine was broken and I couldn't find a replacement from the same manufacturer. Some reviews online suggested that this product is a "clone" and I initially hesitated to purchase it.However, after installing and using the product for several months, I can say that this is pretty much an identical swap for the old coin mech I had. All of the existing mounting holes and wiring were 100% compatible with my machine, a Toy Taxi 31" from Coast to Coast Entertainment.

Great Price, I'm a little worried about using it commercially.

As other reviewer pointed out this is a great win for the price. It does work, it's very easy to setup for whatever coin you want to take (just load a sample coin in) and the connections/settings are very standard. In fact in my machine it it was a plug and play switch over from the old acceptor of another brand.I don't really mind that the mechanism itself is plastic but I'm giving this 3 stars because the coin clear lever shaft is also plastic. I can envision several ways the lever could easily be broken off and don't have much confidence that this will hold up against the daily abuse of commercial operation, but time will tell, I may update this review. Regardless, 25 bucks is a great price.

Work great

Works great plugged ring in set coin size and up and running

somewhat fragile but works

wiring is straightforward. Parts are not that durable. I ended up snapping a little piece of plastic that helps alight the coins as they come in. This means that they don't always register properly. It works though and its the cheapest on the market!

works good

It is being used in an arcade machine on location and so far no one has been able to jam it up or break it. That says alot right there.

Got it for a MAME cabinet. works great, poor documentation

Once it is properly connected, this coin mech works great and is very inexpensive. I installed it on my MAME arcade cabinet.Unfortunately, the documentation on how to get it to work is almost non-existent. I ended up having to add a relay and figure out what wires went where using a multimeter. It needs a 12v power source to work.It will only accept one type of coin at a time. you can set it to accept just about any type of coin or token out there. The coin selector is very easy to set up.
