The bottom of the cylinder of my 25 year old Aeron is hitting the carpet floor. Will a new cylinder fix that?
Will this work on a Mirra 2 chair?
Does this work on a side activated or front activated Aeron chair or both?
Might someone please tell me after installing the new cylinder, when it is in its LOWEST position, how high is the seat from the floor? Thank you.

Great Replacement for the Aeron Classic

Works as advertised. Fits the Classic Aeron. Zero complaints. Very satisfied with this purchase.Instructions:You’ll need a hammer, wd40 or a penetrating oil, and an 11/16 socket. Optional: patience, swear jar.1. First remove the seat. (Use a hex key/Allen wrench).2. Prepare to remove the wheel base by applying degreaser/wd40 to the points where the cylinder is attached.3. Wrap a towel around wheel base and gently use a mallet to knock it loose/off.4. Remove the the plastic hardware lid by gently prying it open. Place aside.5. Use a philips screwdriver, to remove the two screws holding the pneumatic lever.6. Place chair at an angle over a bench or chair. (Pneumatic cylinder facing down at an angle.)7. Place an 11/16 socket on top of where you removed the pneumatic lever lid. (From Step 5. The removed lever lid reveals the hole where the pneumatic cylinder is affixed.)8. Whack the hell out of the 11/16 socket with a hammer. If it is properly degreased, it will shoot right out.9. Attach the new cylinder to the wheel base.10. Place chair on top of cylinder and wheel base.11. Replace the two screws from step 5. Adjust the screw that sits on top of the new cylinder. The height/position of this screw will either increase or decrease the rate at which the chair goes up and down.12. Repeat steps to re-assemble. (This point is a great time to deep clean the chair).13. ????14. Profit :)

Perfect replacement for Aeron-C

This cylinder was a perfect replacement for my Aeron-C chair which developed a death wobble that finally got to be too much. Installation was easy using an 18 inch pipe wrench and 20 oz framing hammer. Did not need to use an extension on the wrench but did need to bear down to get it to break free from the seat. Removal from the base was easy enough, just a few good whacks with the hammer and the old cylinder dropped right out.I feel this replacement is good quality and should last based on the weight of the new cylinder, time will tell. I chose this one based on reviews for aeron chairs and not on price. No more wobble.

Works as designed. Installation was actually a breeze!

I was a bit hesitant to order this based on so many reviews describing the difficulty of removing the old pneumatic cylinder. I decided to skip the pipe wrench and go straight to the 11/16 socket and a hammer method as mentioned in Justin's review. A half-dozen good whacks with the hammer on the socket and the chair separated from the top of the old pneumatic cylinder. I then flipped the base of the chair over and used the same hammer to whack the bottom of the old pneumatic cylinder out of the base. Easy peasy folks! The new pneumatic cylinder slipped right into place. I did have to adjust the chairs height control release mechanism on top of the pneumatic cylinder for the up & down movement. Again, this is all outlined in Justin's review of this pneumatic cylinder found here -> https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R3AR386G1C2AVZ/ref=cm_cr_dp_d_rvw_ttl?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B07QGCW421

Don't mess around with a pipe wrench

Cylinder seems to work fine, but its been less than an hour so I'd hope so. I wanted to pitch in my two cents about installation. After a couple hours of wrestling with my pipe wrench, I decided there's got to be a better way. Lo and behold, I found a method on YouTube of hammering out the cylinder which I found much easier to do: (1) remove seat with 6 mm hex key. (2) remove mechanism cover by hitting the back a couple times and prying off (my chair is ancient and this was easy to do without damage). (3) you'll see that the cable connects to a lever that actuates the tube. Remove the two screws from the assembly that the lever sits on and push it out of the way (you can’t take it off completely because of the cable, which is mildly irksome). (4) take an 18mm socket, put it over the cylinder which is now exposed, and whack it a few times with your hammer. Mine was pretty stuck in there, so it took a good amount of force to get out. It'll pop out eventually, so don't despair. Then you whack the cylinder out of the chair base, drop in your new one, and reassemble. I found this much easier than the pipe wrench method and it just takes a little bit of set up.

OEM-like replacement part -- excellent product

My 1997 Aeron B Classic gas cylinder needed replacement. At first, thought I would need a new chair. After some research, realized that a total cylinder swap out was needed. Definitely worth going that route vs. trying to fix original cylinder with bearing/washer kit replacement kit. Its a fairly easy repair with the right tools. As others mentioned, remove the 5 spoke base. I hammered the bottom end of cylinder from the underside vs trying to mallet tap it out topside on the spoke base, idea not mar or scratch the base. Removing the top end of cylinder from the chair is a little trickier. I removed the mesh seat base which is pretty easy -- 4 screws -- and remove the plastic cover. From there set chair on workbench and used a socket to drive cylinder out from the top. Used a little Liquid Wrench before doing this. The alternate way for the top side cylinder removal is try to get a pipe wrench on the bottom side of the cylinder underneath chair and twist it out. Advantage is not having to remove the mesh seat base. But for my chair, this required so much torque to loosen that it wouldn't work. So as others have mentioned, going at it from the top side was the way to go. After a few hard blows with a ball peen hammer it came out. The new part itself is very stable, fit perfect on both ends, and actually raises the chair up a bit higher than the original. Wish I would have done this years ago!
