Bright and easy to install.

We built our home back in 2001, 22 years ago. It came with several built-in kitchen under cabinet fluorescent fixtures. The bulbs were the T5 kind in various lengths, 24 inches, 21 inches and 12 inches. All was well until recently when a ballast went out. I could not find a replacement ballast due the old style, so I decided to replace them with new LED fixtures. I’m the kind of guy that doesn’t like to mix things up. I want the tires on a vehicle to all be the same, for example. Anyway, these fixtures looked good and had good reviews so I ordered several of the 4,000K, cool white ones. I learned that I could have kept the old fixtures, removed the ballasts, done a little rewiring and used LED tubes. I preferred to have new ones with the LED strips.I started them yesterday, Saturday, Sept. 9 and finished them Sunday morning. I did not go to church as I had a heart attack 2 weeks ago on Aug. 26, I kid you not. Total time from flipping the breaker, gathering my tools, removing the old fixtures, installing the new fixtures and returning my tools would be about 4.5 hours. Not bad for a 71-year-old man with Lupus and a recent heart attack survivor.Point being: they are not a problem to install. If I can do it, you can do it.One piece of advice I will give… rather than measure from the back of the under cabinet so the fixture is straight, I cut 2 small blocks of wood the right thickness and used Scotch tape to attach them to the back of the fixture. I held the fixture against the back and the blocks kept it correct and used the supplied screws. I used a B&D battery screwdriver to put the screws in and did not need to drill a pilot hole. Blocks were then removed and on to the next one. All necessary hardware was included with them.I like the fact that they each have an on/off switch, left in the “on” position, as a wall switch controls them. But I can turn them all off but one to use as a night light. They are bright and above all - my wife likes them.

Watch out, you'll see the dirt that's been hiding on your walls

I decided it was time to replace my 18 year old under cabinet lights(which I had installed myself) with a modern replacement that was brighter. Overall the installation was pretty easy, I only cut myself once, but that has nothing to do with the product. I didn't have trouble with the channels behind holding the wires, like some people described. The nuts that hold the wire in the back were a little tight for my romex cables, but it wasn't that much of a problem. The one trick I found for installing was for when you are putting the main compartment back in place. I took a small flat head screw driver and put it between the front edge of the inside piece and each of the two little clips at the front. Then I levered the screw driver backwards, and they snapped into their slots without any fuss. After the first one taking about 30 minutes, I could get the others down to about 10 minutes each to install. One thing though. After installing, i discovered stains on my tiles and back walls, high under the cabinets that I could not see before. These lights are nice and bright, but be prepared for some cleaning when you're done. :)

Good fixture but a bit of a challenge to install

Now they're installed, these fixtures are very nice indeed: bright and just the right color temperature. But if you plan to install them yourself, be aware of a couple of challenges. First, and as other reviewers have noted, the LED board clips into the body of the fixture; you'll need a screwdriver or putty knife to get the required leverage. (Not sure why they didn't just design this with a screw-on instead of the clips.) Second, the body of the fixture attaches to the cabinet by pressing it onto two screws you've previously installed, then sliding it to lock into place. Tricky bit of business when you're working under a cabinet! Again, it would've been so much easier had they simply designed it to be screwed into place. So be forewarned: this job will take a bit longer than it should have.

Very BRIGHT under the counter lights

These were a pain to install, hire a pro. Hard wired. NOT plug and play. This lights are 21" bright 5000K, VERY BRIGHT. They look good and I ordered 3 more 21" for our kitchen.I recommend these lights.

Great light, solidly made, easy to install

The 90+ CRI of these lights is great for making food look natural. They're pretty powerful; I used 8W sticks for a couple of 2' wide counters, and 14W sticks for 4' wide counters, and that was borderline too much light. I figure if you use 3W per foot to reckon the wattage that will be about right.I'm an experienced DIYer but not an electrician so don't take this as gospel, but I've found an easy way to install these lights is with metallic cable (MC cable,) that's readily available from any hardware store. Take the MC cable back to a surface mount junction box, put in some screw-in metal straps to hold it (see photo) and connect it to whatever electrical wires you have. Bear in mind the MC cable can't turn tight corners. These lights have enough space inside (just...) for wire nuts, but a good tip is to stagger them, i.e., cut each of the three wires to a slightly different length (different by at least an inch) so that the wire nuts aren't all clustered together inside the fixture. That makes it easier to get the cover back on.Oh, and the instructions don't tell you how to knock out the metal circles to get the wires in. Just take a flat-blade screwdriver and a hammer, and tap at the edge of the circle enough to create a small opening, then use pliers to grab the edge of the circle, and twist it back and forth a few times until the retaining tab breaks off.

Bright white and low profile

Bright white light that matches my recessed LED ceiling lights. Low profile and tucks up under the wall cabinets with cabinet trim. Pleased with them. Also, good value in comparison with others.
