The pestle fits nicely in my hand and the mortor is a good size with a capacity of a little more than a cup. The wood grain pattern is very pretty. The inside edges are a little rough but a little fine grain sand paper should take care of that. I look forward to using it.

For a long time the answer was "no" since I have a food processor, coffee grinder and heavy-duty blender. And yet articles and reviews on this ancient hand grinder kept calling me. But I ignored them until this one came along. I have a small kitchen so adding something to the counter tops is a major decision. Until this one came along. I love natural wood products and this one is lovely. So for a while I just enjoyed looking at it until I picked a recipe requiring that I grind whole spices. It's lovely and does a great job -- it's heavy enough and light enough and shaped perfectly to fit its pestle. It's just a joy to see and use. (Someone's review mentioned splinters, and I could see how those would happen at the cut of the wood burl. I used a fine grit sanding sponge to smooth that area "just in case" and it's fine.) If you keep coming back to this kitchen tool, just give in and buy it. You won't regret the purchase.

I’m am more than pleased with my new mortar and pastel. It has exceeded my expectations as far as quality and beauty. I will try it out tomorrow and I don’t expect any problem. I have given it it’s initial light rub with mineral oil and now I’m standing back admiring it.

Intended as a Christmas gift and got lost in the mail. Ordered a replacement and eventually got both in January. Replacement was broken but the original was good. Didn’t complain bc I got a refund on the first one. The first one was beautiful! Second one was bigger and pretty but not as pretty as the first. The bark across the top had a notch bumped off of it but wasn’t too terrible. Gifted both since they came after Christmas anyway.

A great addition to my kitchen. Gorgeous, useful and one-of-a-kind.

I bought this to celebrate my new home and it’s beautiful. I love the cutting boards. Recommend 10/10.

This is the best Mortar and Pestle I have ever tried. I have tried ceramic ones and marble ones, but this gives perfect results for making curry pastes and marinades. I would definitely recommend this one. The size allows you to pound and mixed all at the same time. It's a winner and also beautiful and tactile. It is a wonderful addition to any kitchen.

This is a beautiful looking mortar and pestle, which I will happily display on my benchtop. I am very happy with it. It is actually fairly light, so am not sure how I will go crushing heavier/ harder seeds - but that is to be expected of olive wood. Overall, happy with my item.

This not only works beautifully - one can cover the top easily with one's fingers (thereby stopping the ingredients bouncing all over the place) whilst crushing your spices but it is also pleasure to look at and delightfully tactile.
