Q: What's the shelf life on this stuff and how long does it sit in an amazon warehouse before it ships? Or, does it ship from the manufacturer?

Prime orders ship from Amazon warehouses. This is a sterile product so easily lasts for a year. It’s also vacuum sealed to eliminate any issues during storage and transport. Inventory turnover is usually less than a month. However we recommend you use it within a couple of months of receiving it.

Q: Does the bag only come with rye berrys? So you have to mix it or can you grow it righg out of the bag?

Once the rye berry bag is colonized, you need to mix it with a bulk substrate. Mushrooms grow out of the bulk substrate when it’s fully colonized.

Q: What do I buy? The rye berries or the substrate?

For a successful harvest, you will need both. You will start with the rye berries and inject your spore syringe or liquid culture (either is sold or made separately) into the rye berry bag via the injection port. Once the rye berries are colonized by the mushroom, you will then mix the rye berries into the substrate. Once the substrate is colonized, then the mushrooms will show up. We recommend doing some research on mushroom cultivation, grain bags, substrates and monotubs.

Q: having trouble opening vacuum sealed bag, followed pinching directions and still nothing is happening, what can be done? and is there a video?

The rye berry filter bag is in an additional vacuum seal bag. So carefully cut the vacuum seal bag with scissors from the long end and remove the filter bag from the outer vacuum seal bag. Once the filter bag is out, slowly pull apart the bag by holding the front and the back of the bag right above the filter to slowly let air in.
