Excellent

Very well written. Read it in a day… my only suggestion would be a family tree (picture) the first was a little hard to follow. Loved this book. Prayers for this family.

Interesting and well written

I enjoyed this book. So informative and interesting. So shocking this occurred for as long as it did.

Amazing story.

This book is incredibly sad, but super encouraging. These siblings are nothing short of amazing and it's been so cool to catch up with them now. The book is a bit repetitive, I feel like I read the exact same thing through multiple chapters, but overall I enjoyed it.

WOW!

What this Mother and Father did to their children is unbelievable. Prison for them is nothing more than a slap in the wrist. They should be forced to live the way their children were forced to live. That would be prison! The strength of these kids will leave you cheering for them to escape and thrive. How sad they had the parents they did. It is well written book. Oh the secrets behind closed doors!

Fascinatingly awful story with meh writing

Devastating story but poorly written. Agreed with the other review that calls this a bad book report. The back story on the parents is fairly well done, however he goes on to tell the story with the same details and verbiage as what is used in the court proceedings so it's very repetitive. Just felt like it was lacking substance overall. That said, it's an easy read and still interesting because of how awful the parents were.

Sad story, but well written.

Good book, such a sad story for these children. The author has written it well.

How well do you know your neighbors?

I remember when this story was on National News, and John Glatt did a wonderful job of presenting this tragic story of these 13 children to the public. In our fast paced world today, we seldom get close to neighbors, but this story begs for us to pay attention to our surroundings and what goes on in our neighborhood. I think of all the times during the years these children were locked away from society that just one call to have the family checked out might have prevented years of abuse.

well written true crime

I put true crime in three categories. The first - classic, rise above the genre (In True Blood). The second - well written, researched, compelling/unique. The final - poorly edited repackaged court transcripts, etc.I would put this solidly in number two. John Glatt is one of the best true crime authors. As far as the story - absolutely 100 percent heartbreaking and mind boggling.Worth the read.
