These decorative gears are pretty much as promised, allowing for a little "wiggle room":PROS: ~ Although they are practically all round-shaped gears, there's a very nice variation in size and appearance: empty "Captain's Wheel" shapes, more elaborate "sports-car steering wheel" shapes, solid with holes, various types of saw teeth, some that are more cog-like, and so on. Of the 71 pieces I received, I won't say there are no duplicates, but it gives that impression.~ Metal content. Oh, they're bronze all right. They look, smell and handle just like bronze. I do not believe these are genuine antique gears from salvaged from wristwatches and the like -- it would be prohibitively expensive to gather such repurposed material in China and export them to crafters around the world. But they're good and not thin -- I can't bend one with my bare hands. I expect them to glue well.CONS: ~ A small demerit between the appearance of the product photo and what I received. They are all pretty much the same shade of medium, aged metallic brown or bronze. This is the best shade to have, but there are none that are more gold- or silver-toned in appearance, as in the photo.~ A larger demerit as to size, if you are counting on larger sizes. There were any number of them smaller than 10 millimeter (.4 inch), some barely larger than the eraser tip on a number-two pencil. Some were indeed as large as 26 mm (about an inch), but nothing larger. Forty millimeters wide is the size of a good-sized men's wristwatch crystal, and if you are expecting some of those, based on my purchase you'll be disappointed (see note on metrics, below). The really tiny ones to strew around, though, are varied enough that decorators and some crafters might like them. Keep away from kids and foods, of course.A note on metrics (feel free to skip if you already know this): 100 grams is about 3.5 ounces in weight; 26 millimeters = about an inch, roughly the size of a quarter. Few if any are larger than that.Fulfillment was fast and count of product accurate. The price is very competitive with similar assortments from other Amazon vendors. I'd love to give this product five stars, but the absence of anything close to 40 mm (1.5 inches wide) makes me afraid that the description, as currently worded, would be misleading to people looking for those larger sizes. So, while it doesn't "grind my gears," I hope that will be changed. Happy crafting!

I ordered these because of the variety of shapes and sizes that I liked for artwork. I thought they would be good for creative projects. So far I have used them to press into clay. I fired the clay and made stamps out of them that I use on pottery I make. I have also made necklaces and earrings out of them by sometimes just hooking one to place on a necklace and sometimes hooking more than 1gear to make a necklace that moves. The same with the earrings. I used the gears to attach up to 2 of the smaller gears for dangle earrings and they turned out very unique and fun. I also incorporated them into collages. They are really a complete mix of designs - I do have my favorites - but for artsy purposes they are wonderful! I highly recommend these. Kids could also use them to build robots or use as decorations on cars. All sorts of things.

- Great Variety! All gears come in many designs and sizes from as large as a quarter to smaller than a dime.- They are all made of metal not plastic.- The metal is not super thin and cheap so it will not bend easily and break when handled.- Some of the cogs have very cute designs like a little heart cut out of the center or a yin and yang symbol.- There are a couple, though not many, that have links on them, I assume for attaching a chain from a necklace.I advise keeping them in their bag or a box as the smallest ones can be easily lost and swallowed by children or pets.Overall it was inded worth the price and should the need arise, I will be buying more.

Good Product

I purchased these antique gears to add to our Steampunk Halloween costumes and was pleasantly surprised at how heavy and of good quality they were. We hot glued them on to my hat, our guns and to any other item we had to add to the Steampunk theme. These are great quality gears.

I am sure I would have loved the sprockets and gears if that is what I received. Instead I got a bag of chain marked as gears and sprockets. I really needed them today, that's why I ordered with Prime. Tried to return them at an Amazon locker and the scanner wouldn't ready the bar code. Not worth my time to return it again. Very bummed.
