Q: What is the difference between a single and a dual coil and when is each applicable?

The Coils are the Heat-Exchangers in the Tank. Having two Coils allows you to heat the water in the Tank from two sources--the first Coil is for the Solar Collector, the second Coil could be for a conventional Boiler, a wood burner, geothermal...whatever other source of hot water you have. A common set-up would be to have the Solar heating backed up by a conventional gas or oil Boiler. You only burn fuel if the hot water demand is too great for the Solar heat to keep up with, at which point the Boiler will automatically kick in when the Thermostat to the Boiler detects the Domestic Hot Water in the Tank is not hot enough. Alternately, the second Coil could be used to allow the Domestic Hot Water in the Tank to transfer heat from the Solar Collector to another heat demand, such as a hydronic heating system. On sunny days, you can get far more heat from a Solar Collector than you need for Domestic Hot Water use and rather than waste it, this approach allows you to transfer the excess heat elsewhere. Typically you need a Controller which prioritizes one demand over the other (either Domestic Hot Water over Space Heating, or Space Heating over Domestic Hot Water) to insure the second heat demand is only serviced if the first heat demand has been met.

Q: How long of a run from the panels to the tank is allowed without losing too much heat?

The amount of heat loss through piping will be a variable based on working fluid temperature, ambient temperature, type of tubing (We recommend or stainless steel corrugated tubing for low heat loss) and also the insulation. The length of the tubing will also determine how much heat loss there is. Generally speaking, the shorter the run, the better. Excessive runs may require larger collectors for adequate amounts of heat transfer to the tank.

Typically a 100-150 liter system is enough for 2 people; if you both shower twice a day you may want to consider a 150-200
