Grace USA Original Gun Care Screwdriver Set, Tools & Accessories for Gunsmithing & Woodworking, 8 Piece Set, Made in USA

I wanted a set of full size screwdrivers made in USA with parallel/hollow ground tips> I've got plenty of 1/4 inch bits sitting around already. The hardwood handles are amazing and I love the look of them. Put them to use right away on sewing machines (we have lots) and the first thing I noticed was that the little bump that others talk about at the end of the tip is gone after the first use. S2 tool steel is easier to grind to exact angles at the end of the tip than CRV. On the chrome vinadium description I think this is chrome moly ? ASI 8650 is nickel chromium-molybdenum not CRV according to internet but almost identical in all aspects to CRV. S2 is a much cheaper cost steel (used in Chapman) than CRV and I'm certain Chrome Moly also.. Reading up on S2 tool steel verse CRV is revealing. Many makers of screwdrivers offer both S2 and CRV steel screwdrivers for different uses. Some even offer impact screwdrivers that are made differently even to S2 and CRV. On the tips breaking I've got one thing to say...read the chapman screwdriver website. They specifically state their S2 tool steel screwdriver tips are designed to break before the screw does. I'm tempted to order a Chapman set that is almost 130 dollars but am going to wait. I'm also tempted to order the micro set from Grace and may do that righ away as it is only 30 dollars with free shipping. Just wish the selection of flat screwdrivers in my "original 8 screwdriver gun set" was even bigger selection :-) Very happy and discerning customer here. Thanks Grace USA.

if you need a screwdriver dedicated to a precision task (we're not talking about watch making here).This is the set. Wont bung up a screw head or slip.Expensive if you're looking for an around the house set of screwdrivers. But the best for what they are designed for.

Great set of screw drivers perfect for what I need

Hobbyist who restores vintage electronics here. I have a Telegraph Key from 1942, and nearly every bolt was frozen. Attempted to free one with one of my normal, non-hollow ground screw drivers left a marred bolt head that was still stuck, so I waited before damaging any more screws.Ordered this set, and applied more PB-Blaster while I waited for these to ship. When these finally arrived, I tried to loosen the marred bolt, and to my amazement, it came out with little trouble. I managed to disassemble the whole key.I'm used to ill fitting- slotted screwdrivers always damaging screws every time I use them, so using "proper" quality tools that leave no damage is refreshing.

::UPDATE 11/4/2016: I originally rated these drivers two stars because the tip broke on one on first use, and another tip looked suspect on the set I received from Amazon. I promised to update the review after contacting Grace and bringing the issues I had with my drivers to their attention. To make a long story short - today I received two replacement drivers from Grace. Dealing with them was very easy, they were very responsive and receptive to the support required, and sent two drivers in short order. That is all one can ask, that a company stands behind their product. I own four Grace brass hammers, brass puches, many Grace screwdrivers.... and this was the first time I have ever had an issue or had to contact Grace. It was nice to see them so responsive and helpful. For that I am upping my rating on these to 4 stars, and chalk it up to one bad driver can happen. I would rate these 5 stars, but the fact it did happen, and I had to take time to get a replacement is worth one star IMHO. Thanks for reading. END UPDATE::ORIGINAL REVIEW::I own many screwdrivers, as a woodworker and DIY'er, I probably have more hand tools than I need, and sometimes buy them because of the "cool" factor alone. (some can probably relate). Plus, I am a sucker for wood handled screwdrivers, I like screwdrivers that remind me of how they were made "back in the day" and also have a few vintage drivers as a result. That is what attracted me to the Grace screwdrivers - wood handled, plus made in USA to boot.This is my fourth set of Grace screwdrivers - I also own their Phillips set, the square recess driver set and their set of micro drivers. I purchased these due to their varying sizes and lengths - I needed a good set to work on my wood plane restoration projects - wood planes have all sorts of different screw sizes, and their locations call for different length / width drivers that are not common. That is where this set shines. Plus, Grace drivers have a great ergonomic handle, the squared off shape ensures you can keep a good grip where needed, and have an edge over rounded handles for my needs and hand size.The first thing I did with these drivers was finish coat the handles. Many tools these days are shipped without any real finish on the handles (cost savings), and I always put a coat of shellac or two on to bring out the figure of the wood, then a coat or two of polyurethane for durability. (make sure to use de-waxed shellac if following up with any finish over the top).Then I put the tools to work... for a few weeks I was really liking these drivers. Then, unexpectedly, one of the tips shattered on a simple brass screw - one that holds the plane front knob. Being brass, there is no way I put too much pressure on it - the brass should give long before any driver. But it didn't, and the tip broke. Huh? That forced me to look closer at the other tips, and found another one that looks suspect.At the price these drivers go for, and their Made in USA label, I was very disappointed. These drivers were treated right and babied, and I have never had any other driver do this. (I have many screwdrivers). Is there a QC / manufacturing issue at Grace these days? When I read all the other reviews around the net stating their drivers broke also, I initially discounted them thinking that it was a 1 in a 1000 chance it would happen to me. I was wrong.I have heard Grace has good customer support, and they will swap out drivers for free, but I have not had the pleasure of testing that. To me, however, the mark of a good product is one where I NEVER have to test the customer service - I would rather not have to go through the hassle.In summary, big disappointment in this outcome. I will update the review as needed as I proceed down the path of having to take time to contact Grace. The first thing on my mind - are they going to charge me to ship this driver back? I may also ask they take a second driver back that also does not look right... we will see how it goes.Thanks for reading - I don't like writing negative reviews, but it is important to call it as I see it, and share my experience as it happened. I wish I could have spent more time in this review sharing all the positive experiences about the rest of the set, and what I liked / disliked about the driver, but it is what it is.
