An instant favourite
I was planning on buying the Islamic Art book but decided to get the Designa compilation instead - a good choice. Such a rich book! I will be reading it for a long time to come. Amazing detail, amazing imagery.

Trips to the ancient daily life with compasses and ruler
Pack full of designs from ancients. With enough reference lines left for me to figure out how patterns were drawn I can draw them with only compasses and ruler, and experience the joy of past without modern technology. Brief introductions of uses in history make this book not only a great collection of patterns but a delightful history book.
