The adventures of Deadpool, a high-tech, wisecracking mercenary. (unofficial) Review: Awesome - Deadpool is a movie that you will know where you stand about it within the first few minutes. It is a superhero movie that breaks all the superhero movie norms in that it is R-rated, is over-the-top violent, has sex in it, and the main character breaks the fourth wall constantly (because he knows that he is a comic book character). Backed by Ryan Reynolds' wit and smart Alek comments all the way through the movie (including making snarky comments about himself), the movie tells the origin story of Wade Wilson, AKA Deadpool, a mercenary who's part of the X-Men universe (although it is not exactly clear which timeline he is in, which is a joke in the movie). Wilson is seeking revenge on a guy named Francis who essentially turned him into what he is. He is joined by X-Men Colossus (voiced by Stefan Kapicic), and sullen teen girl Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand), who are trying to recruit Deadpool to join the X-Men. Francis is joined by Angel Dust (played by Gina Carano) who is a super-strong evil mutant. There are essentially two storylines that run in parallel with each other during the movie. The first is Wade's origin story includes his sex-worker girlfriend Vanessa (played by Firefly and Gotham alum Morena Baccarin), and TJ Miller, as Deadpool's buddy Weasel. Miller steals many a scene he is in, which is no small feat with Deadpool throwing out zingers every couple of seconds. The second is the revenge story, which is where all of the action in the movie takes place. Of course, the storylines do intersect at the end. For those who get the blu-ray, the movie looks and sounds wonderful in HD. The extras include two separate commentary tracks, deleted scenes, a gag reel, an image gallery, videos that were a part of the movie's promotional campaign, and the most extensive extra, an hour and twenty-minute long making-of documentary (that is split into five parts). Overall, the movie is awesome. The jokes are great, and make fun of everything from Reynold's acting ability vs. his looks, the horrible incarnation of Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (also played by Reynolds), as well as the Green Lantern movie (also starring Reynolds). It seems that everyone in the cast was having a blast and not taking themselves too seriously. It is most definitely not a family-friendly movie as there is a lot of swearing and sexual jokes. The action is great, especially the battle at the end, and the movie has no problem lampooning the superhero genre. It is definitely worth checking out. Review: Deadpool is Dead Sexy - Deadpool is the latest comic book movie in an industry over-saturated with comic book movies. And it knows it. The movie’s self awareness is one of the strongest elements of the film from a first time director, and there’s a lot to love about Deadpool. Yeah, I loved it. It’s not the best movie ever made, but it’s the most fun I’ve had in the theater since Ant-Man. So, what’s so great about it? I’ll discuss below, with some light spoilers. Nothing major. Pros The Comedy. This movie had me laughing within the first 30 seconds of the film, and kept me in stitches the entire run time. It’s funnier than most comedies. The humor comes mostly from Deadpool himself, but TJ Miller, who plays Deadpool’s best friend, probably has my favorite line in the movie. I won’t ruin it for you if you haven’t seen it, but if you have, it’s starts with, “I’d come with you…” Deadpool is a self aware character who constantly breaks the fourth wall. The movie had to reflect that, and it did in spades. The Action. It’s not just funny, it’s exciting. The action is top notch and there are real stakes, unlike some comic movies. The R-rating allows the movie to show fighting in very explicit and creative ways. It’s bloody, but not gruesome. Think Kick Ass or Kingsman. The love story. Too often in comic books and comic book movies, the female love interest is bland and interchangeable with any other. Not in Deadpool. Morena Baccarin plays the love interest perfectly, and you really believe these two people are in love, and you can understand why. If the love interest didn’t work, the movie’s finale would feel empty. Luckily, it rings true. The Pacing. At the end of the day, Deadpool is a basic origin story. Again, the movie is self aware. This opens the possibility of creative editing choices, which are used. Flashbacks and fourth wall breaks fill in the gaps to explain where Deadpool came from, and it keeps the movie moving along at an exciting pace. As someone who is not too familiar with the character, I found the movie’s explanation of Deadpool’s origin to be very easy to follow and very entertaining at the same time. The casting. Two words: Ryan Reynolds. He’s never been better. To a large extent, the success of Deadpool rests of his performance, which is fantastic. Deadpool is a wise ass, and Ryan Reynolds is a wise ass. I don’t know who could have played Deadpool any better; the casting was perfect. The fact that he played Deadpool before in the terrible X-Men Origins: Wolverine also opens up a lot of comedic possibilities, which were thankfully exploited. The rest of the cast was top notch as well. I already mentioned Morena Baccarin, but credit is also due to the villain played by Ed Skrein (of Game of Thrones). Cons This was another movie that was difficult for me to come up with the cons. However, I did think of some. No movie is perfect. The trailer. It’s not a bad trailer, but it ruins a lot of the best jokes. However, as a piece of marketing, it’s perfect. I just turned this into a “pro,” didn’t I? The bad guys. With the exception of Skrein’s Francis, the bad guys were a little underdeveloped. I would’ve liked to have seen more of Gina Carano’s character and more of “Agent Smith.” Also, the terrorist character at the beginning of the movie is kind of forgotten after his one scene. Maybe he’ll show up in the sequel: Deadpool 2: Electric Boogaloo. The final fight. The final fight is a bit by-the-numbers. Why not use Deadpool’s tropes while he’s fighting? I saw one commenter mention that he’d love to see Deadpool beat a character with a boom mic grabbed from off-screen. That’s a great idea. I hope they use it in the sequel. Final verdict: The highest praise I can give this movie is that it made me want to read the source material. I ordered a Deadpool comic on desertcart right after seeing the movie. (Get yours by clicking the link.) Deadpool is a lot of fun, as a comic book movie should be. It knows what it is, it knows what beats it needs to hit, and it does the job almost perfectly. It’s just definitely NOT for kids. Story: ★★★½ of 5 Directing/Editing: ★★★★★ of 5 Acting: ★★★★ of 5 Comedy: ★★★★★ of 5 Overall: ★★★★½ of 5

memorable characters and a fun Stan Lee cameo
The Plot: In a desperate moment while dying of stage four cancer, Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) agrees to accept a “cure” for his cancer from British scientist Ajax (Ed Skrein). This therapy triggers his latent mutant cells to give him incredible healing powers, but those powers come at a cost. Renaming himself Deadpool, Wilson sets out to find Ajax and a cure for his malformation – and there’s nothing that can stand in his way. Kent’s Take: For those not feint of heart, of weak stomach or of strong moral sensibilities, “Deadpool” is a “dead-spin” of the Marvel feature film formula. Touting the usual quality production, skilled acting, memorable characters and a fun Stan Lee cameo, this may sound like a very traditional Marvel film – it’s not. Spinning the time-honored Marvel structure into a dark shadowy tornado of ultra-violence, gore, strong language, sexual themes, nudity and more violence and gore (I had to list it twice) pries this narrative out of its mold. Yet, this is also one of the funniest films I’ve seen in a while. Laughs come in the opening credits (which are a treat in themselves) and continue non-stop throughout – ridiculing themselves, the X-Men and everyone else they set in their sights – attesting to some great writing. Wise-cracking Deadpool converts killing into an art, a story and a hoot – deadpanning memorable lines as he makes the bad guys pay dearly. He is both lovable and chilling, hilarious and deadly, amoral and angry. Director Tim Miller almost finds the perfect explosion of violence and laughs while dodging in and out of the Avengers and X-Men universe. With an R rating, this film requires a mature audience. In a society struggling with gun violence and homegrown terrorism, it was a good decision to make this an R rated film. A PG-13 rated version would have relegated Deadpool to a shadow of his true persona, while the R rating will keep youngsters out of a film that is inappropriate for them. Parents, let’s do our jobs and make sure our children see appropriate films for their age. “Deadpool” is a love and origin story like you have never seen before. While “Guardians of the Galaxy” shunned the Marvel family-cetric blueprint for an edgier story, “Deadpool” burns it with attitude to open up some very interesting options for a future drenched in sex, blood and possibilities.

One of the Best Marvel Films to Date. Over-The-Violence, Adult Language and Situations Make for an Adult-Oriented Film.
Deadpool has been a Marvel comic-book fan favorite for over twenty years and after more than ten years of on-again, off-again development, this film is one of the top-grossing in the Marvel X-Men universe. Because it is part of the X-Men universe films, it is decidedly not part of the MCU which means there are no references and appearances of characters from the massive "Avengers" storyline of the MCU. But that does not take anything away from this film whatsoever. Ryan Reynolds had been pushing to have this film produced ever since he briefly appeared as an alternate version of Wade Wilson in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." In that film, Wade Wilson is genetically altered to become Deadpool/Weapon XI, but a radically different version of the character featured in the comics and in this Deadpool film. Even though this is the origin story of a Marvel comic book character, it is decidedly NOT a family film as it contains scenes of gratuitous violence and gore along with an abundance of adult language and situations. This movie features much more humor than other Marvel productions, to the point that there is a joke in nearly every line of the script. The visual effects are all high-quality and over the top at certain points. The story is presented as flashback sequences for most of the film and is narrated by Deadpool himself. This version of the film includes the 4K UHD disc, BD and UV digital copy. (Note that the UV digital copy is not in 4K UHD but in 1080p HD.) Deadpool is glorious in the 4K format and once you've seen a few films in 4K, HD will seem dated by comparison. The packaging is standard fare for any 4K BD and includes no bonus items like booklets or collectibles inside. If you're a Deadpool or Marvel fan or enjoy superhero films with tons of action and violence with plenty of humor added to the mix, I highly recommend this film.

FORMAT: Blu-Ray + DVD + Digital HD UPC: 0-24543-10434-6 RELEASED: 2016-05-10 TITLE: Deadpool (2016) • R • 1:48:06 Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, T.J. Miller, Gina Carano Tim Miller (Director) This movie isn't for everyone. If you are one of those people who can NOT, in any way, abide so-called "bad" language and/or violence; nor can you tolerate ANY sexual references WHATSOEVER, then steer well clear of this movie! If, on the other hand, you aren't quite such a tighta$$, then you will probably find this movie to be VERY enjoyable (and, VERY funny) — with its sly, sadistic, send-up of pop culture in general (and comic book movies in particular). This one is definitely NOT for the kiddies, folks! Let's hope they DON'T screw up the sequel! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. See the other reviews on this page for more detail and/or other opinions regarding the plot of the movie. VIDEO: 2.39:1 • Color • 1080p • MPEG-4 AVC (31.2 Mbps) This movie's image features dazzling colors (as befits a comic book movie), sharply detailed objects, and very good apparent depth. It also has very good, to frequently excellent, contrast and has very good shadow detail (as seen in the many dark and shadowy areas, such as the bar scenes, the scenes in Wade's apartment, and the scenes located in Ajax's lab). Also, there are no obvious artifacts such as banding, specks, white dots, hair-lines or color fluctuations (probably because of the extensive use of CGI [which is an observation, and NOT a complaint]). Overall, this movie's presentation on blu-ray has very good, to frequently excellent, picture quality — and, should satisfy all but the very pickiest of viewers. AUDIO: DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 (48 KHz, 24-bit) While the sound quality of the DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 soundtrack for this disc is very good — it is NOT among the best examples of the art. Although dialog is clear and well placed, and the rear and side channels are somewhat active and fairly directional — still, it never gave me that deeply moving 'you-are-there' feeling that I frequently get when listening to movies that have what I consider to be reference-quality soundtracks (e.g.— John Wick , Pacific Rim , X-men: Days Of Future Past ). Don't get me wrong: this soundtrack is very good, but it definitely could have been better! Decent Action/Anti-Superhero Flick. Not nearly as vulgar as I anticipated. Lol.
After reading so many mixed reviews, albeit to opposite extremes, I was interested to see which direction my opinion would sway after watching this movie. My husband and I finally rented it the other night. To start, it streamed just fine and I am in a rural area where we do not always have the best internet connection. So, for those prior reviews regarding garbage streaming capacity-I'm not sure what happened. Perhaps the issue was present and has been rectified since. We did not have such an issue. As to the movie itself: Ryan Reynolds has always been a bit of an over actor. That said, for this role I think it was a perfect fit. The Deadpool character is a bit cheesy in some ways (as with most comic book characters, lol). The storyline itself was not bad. Many people commented about the vulgarity. As to that: No, do not watch with your children. Yes, it can be a bit vulgar at times. No, it's not really as bad (in my opinion) as some people made it sound. I was kind of waiting for the whole thing to go downhill given some of the commentary, but it really is no worse in terms of gore, language, and nudity/sexual content than any other action/R-rated flick on the market. There are a few shots of ass (but it's Ryan Reynolds ass, so what he lacks in acting, he made up in decent ass shots, lol). There were parts of the movie that I found to be super corny, but once you're into it for a few minutes, it grows on ya. I also found some parts to be especially funny-mostly the banter between Deadpool and the bartender. Lol. I liked it. Be sure to hang out for the post credit scene.

Dirty, Vulgar, Profane, And Gleefully Loving Every Second Of It
This film is what happens when you take virtually every common trope in superhero movies and turn them right on their collective heads. Let's run through a checklist: Morally righteous good guy as the main character? Nope, instead we get a foul-mouthed homicidal psychopath with a wacky sense of humor. Virginal love interest with a schoolgirl crush on our hero? Nuh-uh, try "lustful hooker with a plastic hard-on" and you've got the girl of the movie. Grandiose effort to save the world from an all-powerful bad guy? Nah, instead it's all about Wade getting revenge on the guy who disfigured him so he can continue having sexy time with his hooker girlfriend. Virtuous morals? Gone. Clean, family-friendly humor? Forget about it. Innocent people in need of saving? Not even once. Deadpool completely subverts the genre and openly mocks the common trends and cliche's we've all come to know and love, regularly breaking the fourth wall and offering sardonic yet witty commentary on the genre as a whole. Ryan Reynolds, put simply, IS Deadpool. He embodies virtually everything about the character, from his light-heartedness and completely amoral personality to his absolutely filthy sense of humor. His performance is at once endearing, hilarious, and the truest possible portrayal of Deadpool to ever be depicted on-screen. He's lovable, psychotic, and downright hilarious at times (with my personal favorite scene involving a dispute between Deadpool and Colossus... which ends with the single funniest fight in the movie). Be warned though, this film is NOT for kids and is NOT family friendly... ... which should have been plainly obvious judging by the R rating... ... would you believe I actually saw parents with their kids when I went to go see this in theaters? Look guys, this film has everything -- no, really. EVERYTHING! Graphic violence, obscene language every few seconds, full frontal nudity (both male and female), an entire sex montage, dirty jokes... every single R-rated thing they could throw into this feature WAS thrown in and is regularly stuffed in your face in full detail. If you're seriously ignorant enough to think that Deadpool is a child-friendly movie purely because it's based on a comic book, might I humbly refer you to Watchmen, V for Vendetta, The Crow, and The Killing Joke, before having your geek license revoked. Seriously -- the rating is there, half the marketing campaign was devoted to emphasizing how non-family-oriented it was going to be, AND the source material is obviously adult-oriented, so if you ignored all that and got upset at how obscene this R-RATED MOVIE was, you have nobody to blame but yourself. So, rant notwithstanding, I highly recommend this film. I give it 5/5 stars. See it when you can. (... seriously though, would these concerned parents just SHUT UP already?!)

Maximum Effort!
I never thought we'd see a Deadpool movie, let alone one that gets the character so RIGHT. Ryan Reynolds plays Wade Wilson, a former Special Forces soldier who has become a mercenary who only wants to give "pavement facials" to guys who deserve it. But Wade falls in love with a gorgeous prostitute named Vanessa (Morena Baccarin), whose crazy matches Wade's crazy, big-time. But Wade discovers he has terminal cancer, so to be with the woman he loves, he joins a shady organization that promises to cure his cancer and make him a superhero too. The procedure works, granting Wade super-healing that prevents his cancer from killing, but at a cost - he becomes grotesquely scarred all over his body. Discovering the malicious truth behind organization's intentions for Wade's newfound power, he escapes and hunts down Ajax (Ed Skrein), the man responsible for Wade's procedure, determined to make him fix Wade's scars so he can live with Vanessa happily ever after. The road to making this movie was a long one. After Deadpool's botched appearance in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Twentieth Century Fox's desire to produce a solo Deadpool movie was extremely low. Add to that a string of box office bombs like Green Lantern and R.I.P.D. that brought Reynolds' viability as a leading man into question, along with the necessity of an R rating to truly bring Marvel's "Merc with a Mouth" to gloriously violent, potty-humored life, and a Deadpool movie was a particularly hard sell. But then, something wonderful happened. A two-minute piece of test footage filmed by Reynolds and director Tim Miller was leaked online. Though Fox wasn't won over by the test footage when they originally saw it two years prior, the massive, overwhelmingly positive fan reaction made it extremely difficult for Fox to ignore the idea that an R-rated Deadpool movie could actually be a success, though still somewhat of a gamble for a major motion picture studio. They greenlit the production with a fairly modest budget and stepped back, seemingly alllowing Miller, Reynolds, and writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese (Zombieland) to truly embrace the manic, bloody, lewd nature of the "anti-superhero" Deadpool and capture it on film, even using its ribald humor and graphic violence as a marketing tool with redband trailers and snarky innuendo-laden commercials featuring Reynolds himself in costume, talking directly to the audience in true Deadpool fourth wall-breaking fashion. It all worked, probably far more than anyone expected. Deadpool debuted at #1 with $150 million, becoming the biggest, highest-grossing R-rated film of all time. Though the film's plot is fairly basic, Ryan Reynolds was born to play Deadpool and embodies the character like no one ever could. The jokes, pop culture references, and Easter eggs fly by laser-fast, and the film radiates a fun and exuberance few superhero films do. As of late May, it's the best superhero movie of 2016, and it could very well remain that way. So put on your Crocs, grab some chimichangas (though I prefer tacos myself), and enjoy Ryan Reynolds giving you his maximum effort in Deadpool.

Like the comic hero genre? Want it a little more hard edged? Get this then.
This was my 1st pre-order and wasn't entirely sure how things worked, but I was always able to check it's progress along the way, which was very placating. Went from pre-order to estimated delivery date, which again I was always able to keep an eye on. I know this may sound like we should all know this is the procedure, but we all have a 1st time at anything new, so in case you haven't experienced pre-order, don't worry it's all pretty self explanatory. So it was delivered by the date I was given and well packed. As for the film, I adored it at the cinema and laughed just as much watching this Blu Ray. There are plenty of professional reviews online if you want a proper review but if you're a comic book hero film lover and like some comedy with this genre, then this should work for you. I will add that it's defintely aimed at adults with it's violent fight scenes, but for me they just enhanced the movie. It also has plenty of innuendo in the dialogue, so I wouldn't be letting a certain 5 year old nephew who loves his X men movies and games watch this just yet. It also has plenty of fast paced comic book dialogue which those of you who don't like the genre or haven't seen many of the Marvel franchise films, may not understand as there are many references made to other films, but all in all it's an action movie with a fun element in a comic book genre. I'd give the film 5 stars in its own right and the pre-order, packing and generally all the logistical side of things was 5 star too.
