Best multi-tool I ever owned
Best multi-tool I ever owned. Never leaves my side when I'm out working. Despite near daily use/abuse since purchase, still in excellent condition. Do yourself a favor: If you're reading through multi-tool reviews, trying to decide whether this one is the one to get...just stop reading and click "buy." You'll thank me later. If you need details, here you go: The knife blades stay razor sharp for a long, LONG time and are accessible without having to open the entire tool. The pliers grip really well and don't break easily like those made by names that remind you of baby food (snicker). The files do the job and don't wear down like you were using sandpaper...like those baby food ones. The saw blade is actually useful and will cut those stray thin branches like butter. Great pair of scissors which are fairly sharp and even cut through cardboard. Have opened more cans/bottles with the opener than I can count. Screwdrivers are all very useful. And, lastly...the leather sheath that comes with it. Why mention that as part of the tool review at all? Because it's just...great. Seriously! It's made of thick, durable leather and really holds up to abuse. We're not talking some flimsy nylon thing that will rip off your belt after a few tugs. This thing will probably outlast your belt, pants, and maybe even YOU. And it does a fine job of keeping the tool securely on YOUR person...because once you get it, you're not going to want to lose it.

Leatherman is the greatest thing since sliced bread!
You can even slice bread with the serrated knife blade! Great multi-tool without throwing in a whole tool-box full of things you rarely use. The pliers are precisely aligned, the knife blades are VERY sharp and the seperately ordered 40 bit kit and extension tool make for a very useful screwdriver that lines up with the center of the handle for better torque. I could live with-out the can opener/bottle opener, but that's just me -- I don't camp. Two files, a saw, scissors, screwdriver for eye glasses, bit that can be reversed from straight screwdriver to Phillip's head, ability to add a variety of other two-headed bits. And it's all well constructed without any play in the tools and everything locks when in the open position so there won't be any accidents. Well thought out. Great tool to carry on your belt in a well thought-out sheath that has elastic on the inside for carrying the extension tool. All that and a 25 year warranty -- how can you go wrong?

Another Great Product From Leatherman
I have used Leatherman tools for 5 plus years. I bought the Wave to upgrade from the Sideclip. There is absolutely nothing wrong with my Sideclip other than day-to-day wear. Unfortunatly it was obsolete and had to get something newer. As a scout leader and a manufacturing engineer, I use my Leatherman everyday. After watching two survival videos from leading experts, I purchased the Wave per their recomendation. Not only are all to tools locking, the external blades can be unfolded, locked, unlocked, and stowed with one hand. I bought the clip with it, which is exceptionally easy to install and remove if needed in seconds. It keeps the tool at easy grasp inside a pocket and does not attract attention. (The pouch gets in the way when climbing in and out of hydraulic cabinets as well as when manuevering through the brush looking for downed deer.) Quality for me is absolutely critical, and this item is ALL quality. Sharp knives, clean edges, easy to handle. I have already shown it to a lot of my co-workers and they are going to order theirs soon!!

When in doubt, go with this one...
I've owned 3 of these in the last ten years, lost one in the woods, gave one away to a friend, and now this one is MINE MINE MINE. Of the three, I have put them all through some serious abuse, like arc-shorting the bland on 220V line, breaking one blade by prying (my fault, for sure) and each time, Leatherman has replaced it with no questions asked. I have owned about every flavor of multi-tool out there, from Gerber to Schrade, and this one, without question, is the most well though-out, and practical I've found. The blades being accessible WITHOUT having to unfold the tool, is HUGE. I can't stress that enough, most other tools you have to use two hand, and 4 steps later, you finally have a simple knife blade available, this one- one hand process from removal to replacement in the sheath. I wish I had a negative to counter this review, but I've yet to find one. All the accessories work terrific, I wouldn't even consider a day hike without this on my belt. or a day at work, actually. Use a little preventitive maintenance on it, like the occassional wipe-down with some light oil, and you'll have no problems with this. Excellent product, made in Oregon, and the replacement garuntee is wonderful.

Does NOT come with the leather case
I specifically ordered this Wave because it said that it comes with the leather case instead of the other Wave listed on Amazon that comes with the leather/nylon case. And of course I get this one and it comes with the leather/nylon case. Amazon, get it together and list the product accurately. The leather/nylon case is not very good. The tool can very easily be removed from the case without opening it because the side walls of the case are very stretchy. It's unlikely that it will fall out on it's own, but it's possible, especially while I'm sitting down and the case is more sideways than when I'm standing. So I would give the case 1 star. That said, I'm giving a positive review because the tool is quality, as you can plainly see from the other reviews. Update: I contacted Amazon, and they refunded the price difference between this and the model that's listed with the leather/nylon sheath. It was only $2.77, but it was the principle of the matter, and Amazon did the right thing.

Excellent Tool.
While i have owned multi-tools in the past, I may never have owned one quite this well-built. I thought i might find some of the flex in the blades that I didn't like about other tools of this variety i've owned, but Leatherman has really done their engineering homework. The blades and tools are rigid, extremely easy to use and lock into place securely with a metal plate or depressible button that will release them on command when you're finished, holding them rock-solid while in use. One Note is that the smaller tools like the scissors, and screwdrivers still require you to have at least some fingernails to pry them out, although it's not difficult. if you bite your nails like I do, be ready to take a little extra effort to bring them to the ready. Not so with the larger tools and all the blades, i can quite literally--with no risk to my hands or to my grip on the tool--draw them into the full locked position with one thumb, and they don't accidentally slide open in my pocket or any other non-sense. I'm somewhat picky with multi-tools, but this one is just too impressive.

Letherman Wave Pros and Cons
Pros: Good selection of sturdy tools. One-hand opening blades conveniently positioned on the outside of the tool as presented from the sheath. All safety locks work properly. Cons: Lack of specialized tool to adjust tension on pivots -- main blade mechanisms and grip pivots were quite stiff as received. Weight is somewhat excessive at 8.5 ounces; exposed un-radiused steel edges are sharp and uncomfortable; there are numerous pinch-points in the mechanical design; the sheath, advertised as leather, is nylon with a leather flap, and is too large for the tool, with side pockets apparently for non-existent accessories. In all, I find the tool is adequate for carry and use for day-to-day chores, at least for awhile. It is still somewhat stiff, but seems to be breaking in with use. I'm using a sheath from a Buck multitool, which fits much better. I will be looking at the Swisstool next to see if its ergonomics are a better fit for me.

Ultimate multi-tool
This is an awesome tool. There are several look-a likes, a few of which I have, but the quality of the Leatherman Wave has them all beat. The tools are meant to be used and used and used, not like some multis that wear out or break readily. They all do what they're supposed to do, the wire cutters, pliers, knife (have cut myself a couple times on this bad boy, scissors, screw drivers, etc. Though not a deal breaker, there are a couple things...the pliers are so stiff to open to their working position. 'Haven't yet figured out just where the friction problem is. I don't care much for the pouch. It is to big and bulky, so I opted to use an old one I have; a more friendly and pliant material from another multi-tool maker. Works fine.

Superb & resilent multitool
I love the Leatherwave multitool. They are well made and sturdy. They are well designed for daily practical use. I lost my recently and was lost without it. From fixing handles on kitchen doors (with screw driver) to fixing a zip on my rucksack (with the pliers), I use mine practically every day and those little household jobs get done in passing, as well as the many uses it has for my outdoor pursuits; cycling, hiking and, camping. Invaluable.
