Q: Can you cut and shorten the post? I’m looking to store this inside of a UTE canopy with side doors to hoist solar batteries and air-cooled generators.

A good welder could cut the post of and re-weld it at the top of the gussets for the plate. You can take probably 2 foot out of it possibly but you need to keep it a very square cut so that the load your lifting is still be centered on the post. It’s a about 1/4” wall black iron pipe.

Great Davit

We use it on our boat and it works well. The only issue is the remote. Take care to keep it out of the weather as water can get inside of it. Otherwise good davit and winch combo.
