There were 8 good size Cuttlebones in the package and all were unbroken with no dust in the bag. My young parakeet will be so happy!

I was not sure how to rate this product. I am going to start with the negatives...packaging needs to be a much better, as a lot of these did get broken on the journey. I live on an Island, which means a very complicated trip, including a ferry ride...Another negative is the size....they are much smaller than I anticipated, not very thick and chubby, but, thin and very fragile....I have a LOT of birds including Budgies, Finches and Cockatiels and although they go after these Cuttle Bones with a vengeance for their beaks, they are all gone in a day and do not last very long....I always order the large ones and they appear to be so much smaller. upon arrival..but, all in all, I would recommend them and you do not expect them all to be in one piece upon delivery...some of them will be broken......which I give to a friend for her chickens...

Indeed, they smell terrible upon opening, but they're fish bones. But the odour isn't just "fish", it's almost a "chemical" odour in addition to the "fish" odour. So I removed one bone from the bag (of an impressive number) and left it out for a week. The odour dissipated so I hung it in my dove's house so that he could peck at it as he wished.Three days later, he was quite noticeably ill. His "poops" were almost all water! He was noticeably drinking more water, but that was completely unusual! I removed the cuttlebone, and watched him with particular care for a week. 12 days later, the condition of his "digestion" was corrected.The ONLY change to anything for him was the cuttlebone so I base my review and opinion based solely on that fact and I would NOT recommend giving these to your previous little companion.
