The best thing about this design is that it is a normal mechanical pencil, but with all the upgrades you would hope for. It is ergonomic, allowing for fast writing. It also uses thick 1.3mm lead so it won't break on you, has a generous eraser for mistakes we will inevitably make, and a durable construction to withstand being used by bozos or us grunts. The great thing about using pencils in the field is that lead typically won't smear or wash out like ink will. It also won't become stubborn after a while and wear out like pens will with their ink coagulating at the tip or exploding. This is a terrific investment and it will last a long time before you need to buy more lead.

It's mechanical pencil. The red easily rights in the rain and it works great with those pads that are made to write on in the rain. I'm not sure if it's the lead or what. But the price is right and they write well... And I can tell you that I was taking notes during an inspection on one of my wet writable pads using this pencil, in a mild rain, and it works great.

This is a great pencil for rough work be it field notes, marking lumber or anything else. It doesn’t smear like pen, writes upside down and works on wet paper. The size makes it work well with gloves too. It’s great and seems it will last a while

Purchased this mechanical pencil because 0.5mm and 0.7mm leads of other pencils I own can't take the abuse of marking laminate and other materials hard enough to make the cutting line easy to view. So far I am quite pleased with its functionality and fit for the purpose. I am not breaking leads, and the lead advance/retract feature works as it should. The triangular barrel shape keeps it on the workbench when other pencils blow off in the wind from miter saws. Quite satisfied and am contemplating getting a second to have around for desk use.

Great work pencil. Light and comfortable to use. There is a brass clutch holding the lead like other Rite in the Rain products. Triangular design is comfortable, provides a confident grip for layout work using squares or rulers and prevents rolling. The HB Medium lead is a little light, but it seems to break less often when used with a layout square or along a straight edge. Would also make a great option for outdoor use, vehicle or bug out bag. I prefer the 13 series for extended writing, but for work the 15 is my go-to. I prefer the 15 series for extended use when writing.

Very good pencil

Super durable, about the same size as the larger mechanical pencils. The lead is super thick, which while inconvenient for fine details, ensures it doesn’t snap while writing. It’s easy to hold and grip. The clip is super helpful too.

Easy to use. Lead doesn't break. Glad I bought the pencil vs pen cuz I make a lot of mistakes

Always liked mechanical pencils but preferred the thickness of a wooden. This is great!
