That’s exactly what I use them for. The charcoal needs to be lit all (or most of) the way or it’ll kill oxygen supply.

Is this not a bit too thick (5 mil) to use for transistor mounting ?

yes this is too thick to wrap a wire, to the desired shape it will not bend
