You get a sturdy plastic sphere shaped design with flat areas that you rotate to accommodate angle and height so you can set it on a shelf away from reach, unless your cat has "super powers" and can leap tall shelfs in a single bound!The device has 4 settings and takes 3 AA batteries.1. Slow speed "random" movement.2. Medium speed "random" movement.3. Medium speed flittering "random" movement.4. Static Mode for using as a laser pointer in your hand.Absolutely love the price point and how it's able to sit somewhere and just be a cat toy. Our cat loves chasing it around in mode 3, gets tired, eats, sleeps and comes back for more. We will activate it while doing some mundane chore and watch the cat play while we work... hmmm? anyway, we will occasionally rotate the sphere so the pointer moves in different areas and angles and cat boredom has yet to set in, our cat continues to enjoy it.Very surprised and highly recommend at least trying it out if you are in the market for a new cat laser toy you don't have to hold all of the time!

This is fun for me and my cats, they tend to watch it more than Chase it when I am not manually moving the device. I was happy with the purchase for the price I paid until the batteries died and I realized this would be a lot better if it had rechargeable batteries. It’s too late to return now so I think I’m stuck with it, still can be fun.

What a great device for the money. At that price, I have three around the house in different areas for more variety. My cats love it. I just found out if you change the side of the toy that it is resting on, the laser will do a modified pattern. One side, the light goes in small circles. Flip the toy to another side and the laser goes in large loops around the room. Each side seems to have a different type of projection. My cats still have not tired of it especially when I flip the toy and get a different pass for the laser light.

My cat loves this thing to bits, but it's super difficult to angle in a way that is usable for a cat and without it going up on the wall/ceiling. My cat loves the fast mode in particular, but after regular use for about a month and a half, the bulb and motor began to burn out. The other mode bulbs work fine, it's only the one for the fast mode that no longer works.Overall, works well and my cat loves it, but is definitely not built to last.
