affordable. Bring your own wire connectors
Install is very standard and relatively simple. The little clip-type wire connectors I do not think are designed for 10 guage wire. They kept coming loose and likely resulted in destroying the old circuit breaker which required me to completely rewire it to another breaker. I ended up soldering the wires. DON"T USE THE CHEAPO CONNECTOR!

China Connected - No WiFi with app - and I overpaid obviously
I FORGOT CHINA BOUGHT GE IN 2016 and HAIER connect the apps to china! BUYER BEWARE!I paid $200 more than listed now. The app can't even connect to the device. It keeps saying "Network Error" "You have no internet connection." "Please check your network status by opening your phone's 'Settings' Menu." "if issue persists, please contact us."I have contacted you and was told it would be fixed. nothing yet. what a waste of money unless the devs fix this I think this was a total WASTE of money. The whole point was to get WiFi capability. what a joke. Unless the app is fixed then I'm not changing this review. Waste of my time and money.

Works fine
Everything seems to work. Shipping was very poor. Box basically destroyed and dents in the several places. Can’t blame product but UPS blew it.

Features I have not seen on an electric water heater before including flexible capacity!
A water heater can be a pretty boring appliance. Seriously, who gets excited about one? Okay, I'll admit, I got a little bit excited about this one. It definitely has features I have not seen on a water heater before. It has a WIFI connection that allows it to work with the SmartHQ app. With the app, you can adjust the temperature and select vacation mode. That could be important to someone who is really trying to minimize their electricity consumption. An even more interesting feature is the hot water flexible capacity selection. "When activated, this feature stores water at higher temperatures. As hot stored water leaves the tank, cold water is mixed in to maintain the desired set point. This mixing allows more usable hot water to be available." It is the equivalent of turning the tank temperature way up with the danger of scalding someone. It actually seems like a really smart feature. I can imagine that if you were having company stay over and anticipated a need for more hot water, you could just select the high or X-high capacity and have more hot water than normal. The user manual says you get up to 40% more hot water capacity on High and up to 60% more capacity on X-high. I haven't tried the additional capacity out yet but seems like a smart feature. You also get a digital control and display that I have not seen on any water heater other than a tankless one. If you like tech or are actively trying to manage your utility usage, this might be the tank for you.Aside from those differences, it's an electric water heater just like any other. Connections on top of the tank seem very standard. The size is typical of the new, higher efficiency tanks that are now mandated. I saw some reviews talking about shipping damage. My heater had a slight crease and 2 dents in it but nothing was deep or looked out of the ordinary. It's a very nice water heater.
