The ten year old approves
Having spent most of one Sunday working through this book, my ten year old, somewhat of a scratch fan, pronounced this book a five star item. Her reasoning was that it walked her through something new on Scratch in a way she could understand. She was able to use the instructions to create her own character and add movement and sound. She liked the fact that there were loads of good tips, like using audacity to record sound and import into scratch, and to storyboard before you start. Excellent book for the audience it is aimed at - ks2 and 3 children with some prior knowledge but wanting to try something new.

Clear, concise and worthwhile
This was clear and well presented and would be accessible I would say to and intelligent and motivated child in junior school upwards. The book takes you step by step through how to create a simple animation using scratch (which is a free web tool) I think this idea is great to give focus and direction to children when they are starting out as simply saying "go explore it" can lead to a lot of aimlessness - if children (or adults like me who didn't have a clue!) follow the book, you get ideas for other projects as you go along, and the structure of the book builds up your skills step by step. Really worthwhile.

If you're itchin to scratch, worth considerin
Our son started using Scratch towards the end of Year 3, so when we saw this book we thought it might be useful both for him to improve his skills and for us to gain the first idea of what they were teaching in school IT these days. His school seem to have moved on to other curriculum items now, but son did demonstrate his use of Scratch to create simple animations before moving on to other topics. It's a useful book for us as parents, but hasn't inspired interest in programming for either generation as yet.
