A Brief History of Ancient Greece is fascinating. I love reading about politics, art, and culture. I don't always download the free PDF's that authors sometimes include with their books, but I'm so glad I did for this one! It includes beautiful photos of artwork, statues, temples and more. I learned so many things about Greece, and now I want to visit so bad! It was really interesting reading about the Olympics and what has stayed the same even today. Must read!

This is such an engrossing read! I love learning about ancient civilizations and if course, Greek and Roman civilization are my favorites, so this book was a must read for me. One thing that I loved about this book is they break down the them and now connections, like why we still tally about ancient Greek leaders like Alexander the Great, and how ancient traditions like Olympic games became a modern global force. Very interesting and educational.

Basic summary. Like reading a series of Wikipedia articles. And very many references in its bibliography are to Brittanica articles or similar. No original insights, no pretentions to depth or breadth. Not academic quality. Inexpensive, but still priced higher than it should have been.

I have read two other Dominic Haynes books, and this one is as good as the others, if not better. He takes a subject that might seem overwhelming to learn and understand (hence, Ancient Greece), and makes it concise, informative, and easy to understand. Suffice it to say, this book gives you the basics. But you will finish with an understanding of history you didn’t have before!Highly recommend!

I loved this book the author did a great job of talking about so many things like Roman civilizations, buildings, people so much stuff along with so many photos of all kinds of art and statues, I learned so many things about Greece that I never knew glad I read this book

The author somehow manages to be "brief" in his history without being overly dry or drawn out. The book was quick enough to read, but still deep enough to understand exactly what happened in each epoch, and the explanation of why and how this fed into them becoming the civilization that shaped the world. Great read.

Even though this is a short read it is very thorough on the mythologies and hiw it has shaped our world's anthropology. It is a great resource for anyone wishing for a deep dive into Ancient Greece
