A beautiful, classic, small pocket knife
This Case Peanut is a beautiful classic knife. When you hold it you really understand what design is - beauty, function and form. The machining is excellent, everything lines up, the materials are good, and the blades sharp. At 2 3/4" closed, the Peanut is similar to a classic small slip-blade pen knife, only the 2 blades (longer clip and smaller pen) are side-by-side rather than one on each end. This makes it a little bit thicker, but it's still very much a light, comfortable to carry loose in the pocket every day, knife. Both blades have 90 degree half-stops. The Peanut is sold with either "Chrome Vanadium" (carbon) or "Tru-Sharp surgical" (stainless) steel blades. The CV steel should take and hold a sharper edge (mine was very sharp out of the box and is holding it well), but will loose their luster and develop a light patina over time. Mine's doing pretty well - you only get minor graying around the tip and thumb-nail mark unless you use it to cut fruit. Cutting an apple caused some near immediate discoloration. However the luster came back with a bit of metal polish. Several months later, I bought my brother-in-law the SS version. It has a really nice blade with a great edge - sharpest SS pocket knife blade I've seen out of the box. Given the quality of Case's stainless, I'd lean towards it. The Peanut is sold in a number of handle materials / colors including synthetic, bone, stag, corelon, and mother of pearl. The handle material you choose affects the price greatly. Yellow Synthetic is a popular lower cost option that provides good looks, durability and value. It is solid and quite hard (like Corian, not plastic) and very resistant to dings. The color is a soft lemon cream that looks really nice against the polished silver / nickel bolsters (to me at least). The brass side rivets are flush and all seams are smooth to the touch. I really like it and would choose it again. Not much to add. It's a well made, well written up, elegantly designed classic little knife. There's a reason Case has such a following. This is about my 20th pocket knife but my first Case. It is something special and doesn't have a crazy price tag. It's become one of my couple favorites.

Great knife; too much packaging for shipping
The knife arrived in perfect condition, brand new, and in box. The quality is great just like I’d expect from a Case knife. The packaging for shipping was a little ridiculous, and included a bunch of styrofoam peanuts. I didn’t know they even made those anymore. It also took a long time for the item to ship, but arrived quickly once USPS got t.

Great little knife
I got this little shiv yesterday, and I've fallen for it already. It is a solid little chunk of craftsmanship. The blades have a nice snap, and they came out of the box nice and sharp. Of course, I took a little time to hone them smooth on my ceramic rods, as the factory edge is always a bit coarse, no matter how sharp it is. The blades have an intermediate position half way between open and closed, so one can close a blade half-way, without having to move one's fingers out of the way, then move the fingers and push it closed the rest of the way. One thing you should know about this knife is that it is small. Peanut is partly a reference to that, and partly to the nice curvy shape. When I'm holding it in my small hand, I can only get three fingers around the body of the knife. But as the old folks say: "It doesn't have to be big, only sharp." It is completely true. The large blade is a clip shape, and is the all-around blade. The tip is sharp enough that I can use it as a toothpick, if I used the back corner and I'm careful. The small blade is a pen shape and is good either as a back-up that is always kept razor sharp, or as a blade for tasks which require delicate control over the tip. The scales are real bone, died a certain color. All the back plates line up perfectly with the bolsters and liners, it really some fine work they've done here. I would buy this knife again in a second. I think the only one that can hold a candle to it is the US-made Buck Lancer Chairman Series, but the materials do not have the glossy polish of the Case. So far, I've used this to cut up and peel fruit, strip wire, as well as break down and cut up boxes. It just doesn't know it's a small knife. I've tried to go back to carrying my Spyderco Delica, Kershaw Leek, Old Timer (US) Stockman, and Case RussLock, but they all just feel big and heavy in the pocket compared to this little guy, and they don't do the job any better, so why bother with that bulk? If you're looking for a small, but high quality knife that has a little more character than a Swiss Army Classic, this is the way to go.

Work knife, not a collecting show and tell knife.
I've seen some complaints that this knife is poor quality because the blades are not high polish and has plastic scales. This is a "work" or value offering from Case at a lower price than the purty knives, thank you Case for this offering. If you use 'em, highly polished blades get easily scratched and scuffed and look worse than the "as ground" finished blades of this knife. Closed length: 2 3/4", brown plastic jigged scales, polished nickel bolsters. Back springs are highly polished and pretty close to flush when blades are open and closed. I could not see any gaps between back springs, liners, bolsters or scales. Main, clip point blade length from tang to point is 1 7/8" long x .405" wide x 1/16" thick, tapering to 1/32 at the point. Blade pull slightly stiff but smooth, nail nick is a little shallow but useable. Blade is not well centered when closed, slight rub on one liner but not a real problem. Small pen blade length from tang to point is 1 3/8" x .270" wide x 1/16" thick, tapering to 1/32" at the point. Blade pull is slightly stiff but smooth, nail nick slightly shallow but useable. Blade is well centered when closed. Both blades have very defined half stops, which I like since it gives me the opportunity to get a better pinch/grasp when opening and assure fingers are out of the way when closing, large knives have more area to pinch/grasp without getting skin on cutting edges than small blades, half stops are welcome. Blades were useably sharp, slightly toothy, most will not feel the need to sharpen further. Blades are stainless steel, Case does not advertise what grade. I like super sharp blades and had no trouble getting them that way on my water stones. There has been some comparison to Rough Rider's peanut pattern, since I have both, I will say that the Case has slightly wider and thicker blades than the Rough Rider and is some what more heavier duty, this is not a slam against the thinner narrower blade since they have their uses. This seems to be a well made knife, I like it. I have also learned to love these small peanut pattern jack knives, small, compact, fit anywhere and do most cutting chores which is probably why they have been so popular for so many years. I think any one who uses or might use a pocket knife should try one of these peanut patterns.
