diy water filter
The media could not be loaded. In response to the review that says the dust makes it unusable, I show my setup as in the image I only had to wash the dust once the first time and from there re-used the same media to fill 2x 5 gallon containers now for the 4th time in almost 2 months. Drilled 2 tiny holes in the cut off oj container lid (used a metal lid from another container). Takes about 2 hours to fill the 5 gallon jugs. I don't sit there watching it. I sync the fill up flow with the drip rate and walk away. To fill up the jugs, I am using my old filter faucet that came with a 3 stage housing so.. well at least i found a use for it after all. So no more $20 filters that promise 20,000 gallons but only last about a month. This will last maybe 6 months maybe longer and the water it filters tastes great. Better than any of the filters I have tried and I did try many differnt brands paying more hoping for better results that never delivered. My cats love drinking this water which is how I can tell when it's time to change filters, when the cats stop drinking. So far they are lapping it up no change required yet, and its been almost 2 months. My setup ain't pretty, and the slightest nudge will tip over and have soggy charcoal all over the counter. But that only hapened once and i figured out its better to remove the carbon and set it down somewhere before moving the jugs. So anyway you can rig it up which ever way works for you. You can make the flow faster and add a mesh to catch the carbon and that way you can fill up a container fast. You only have to wash the carbon once... not every time you need a drink of water LOL.. come on now. And yes, it takes a while to get all the dust out. Maybe 10 - 15 minutes.. NOT 2 hours. Just rinse and pour out repeat in a pot until the water runs clear. and you are good to go for 6 months at least maybe longer. I am VERY happy with the results. The nice thing about this system is that once the containers are filled, the carbon dries out and sits away in the corner until ready for reuse. In the filter housing, the filters just sit there in stagnant water getting slimy residue on the plastic washers.. yuck.. Buy this and set up your own system. You will be happy you did

It took a lot of rinsing to remove the grey-ness & coconut taste from the water & spirits
This was purchased to further refine homemade spirits. I used 2 pounds of very rinsed coal in a tightly packed 2-foot section of 1 3/4 clean PVC pipe to slow filter some over oaked whiskey. The coal removed 100% of all oak flavors and 100 % of the golden color. The results amounted to an extreme over-kill filtering of the spirits. I may try again with about 25% of the original amount of activated coal if there is a "next time". CAUTION The activated coal works well as a filter, even a little too well & it can filter out EVERYTHING. Rinse / wash VERY thoroughly before using there is a coconutty coal flavor in the raw product.

If this Charcoal was in my Stocking I wouldn't be mad
Beautiful grains of Charcoal good cost for it. Water comes out black at first but that's just running off some dust. *Pours 20oz bottle of distilled water in until it runs clear* I don't use Chlorine tap water I use it to clean food stuff out of pet water that's originally distilled because one of them washes face in the water bowl because he's like a CDC agent for Hygiene. Stuff builds up in water too much he's like "Its contaminated" lol. Dump to add more distilled or give it a clean earthy taste? Pets like.

BENTO BOX FILTER does not work with this
These ganulars do not work with the Bento Box Filter for 3D Printing. It is too fine and falls through the grates. Even after putting mesh around it, it is too fine for the air to move through.

Deodorize the kitty litter using this granular size.
For years added baking soda to the kitty litter to Deodorize. The cats love to get in and really scratch around so dust was a problem.Originally purchased activated charcoal in a pellet form, but was too big for the kitty litter scoop. This granular size is perfect.Every time I add 10#'s litter, I add 1/2 cup charcoal. I couldn't find a ratio, so this is what I use. The kitty litter is cleaned every morning, but usually a week or later I will add a little more.Edit: after writing this review, the next day I received spam, advertising activated charcoal labeled for cats. I have used this product and there is no difference between the two, except this one is more economical. 4#'s/$33 vs. 5#'s/$30.

Amazing!
I use this in my cats’ litter robot and regular litter box. It helps tremendously with the poo and urine smells. It has pretty much transformed the upstairs of my house. I will definitely buy again.

Fine granules slow down water flow
Small granules! Too small for my purposes! Slows down the flow of water! Although it does help to reduce cloudiness of the water. I will try get larger pieces the next time.
