Can this product be used on drywall??

Yes provided you have proper support behind the drywall. It does have a 28 1/2 inch center, meaning you need to have support behind the drywall 28 1/2 inches apart...for the screws to go into. OR, you could use  drywall anchors to put screws into, not as strong as screwed into wood, but SHOULD be ok unless your hanging 15-20 lbs + off of it ... In MY OPINION.

Jeez ya gonna make me get my tape measure out.... 3/8  inch, looks sleek, I hang 3 cast iron skillets, measuring spoon and cup set, and  2 tongs off it, occasionally a banana bunch, bet I could easily hang 20 more lbs on it, very sturdy, no flex, I hang mine under my cabinet.

Do you need to drill a hole to mount?

Usually makes it easier if you do. However also works almost as well is one of those push nails they sell to mark and make a divet deep and sharp enough to start a sharp pointed screw. My husband kept taking mine. I finally gifted him two of his own slightly different each in his Xmas stocking. BEING the MAN this MAN is...he immediately tested it Xmas morning on my marble kitchen table. I tried to stop him he insisted it couldn't hurt and ignored my attemps to grab it before he actually pulled the mechanism and let it go. Bang I now have a sharp chip in my marble table. His attitude..it shouldn't have gone through the thin very thin piece of cardboard he had set down. Think cereal box side. Anyway I forget the name of those tools. But go to tools and they'll come up. Maybe nail markers I just forget. I use them all the time. Hubby by the way...we celebrated our 50th anniversary this past Feb 2022. I know you asked in 2019. We've been like this prior to marriage so usually I am right. He's just as stubborn as me and he forgets to be as thoughtful too. Yes it's a thuoghtful gift to hubby. As I used to say at holiday gift giving season..it's a Mom Dorty gift, A Wayne gift and my hubby's gift as I pick often silly items to many but very much their personalities. Often the cheapest strange gadget would be their most favored gift. Often same people wouldn't share with others either. So there you have it find one invest the 5-10 dollars for it and you can ignore drilling half the time if not more. I works for me and I have some ultra hard walls and wood to set screws into. OH however if you have drywall you'll need to drill a hole and set with one of those plastic anchors to secure the screws and prevent wall damage. Just saying. Our house has mostly wood paneling. It was custom made in the 50's by the local lumber company 4 homes for their adult grandkids. Went a bit wild with all wood paneling. REAL BOARDS not veneer stuff. I love my sharp pointed hammer thingy it's a real time saver.
